New from #1 New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot, a dark, fantastical story about this world . . . and the underworld.
Though she tries returning to the life she knew before the accident, Pierce can’t help but feel at once a part of this world, and apart from it. Yet she’s never alone . . . because someone is always watching her. Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back.
But now she’s moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid.
Only she can’t. Because even here, he finds her. That’s how desperately he wants her back. She knows he’s no guardian angel, and his dark world isn’t exactly heaven, yet she can’t stay away . . . especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.
But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld.
I havenβt read any of Meg Cabotβs other paranormal books, so I wasnβt sure what to expect when I started this one.Β All I knew was I was drawn in my the teaser chapter I had read on Meg Cabotβs web site.
Pierce, who has recently moved with her mother to Florida, is trying to get her life together after nearly dying (or actually dying) after accidentally falling into the family swimming pool.Β Itβs not easy moving forward, when your mother is pushing you to forget, your cousin wants you to remember, your grandmother is just plain mean to you and you wonder how your first day at your new school is going to go.Β Letβs not even mention the fact that she seems to be drawn to cemeteries and has a dark guardian, John,Β watching over her.
This is Abandon, based on the greek myth about Persephone and Hades.Β Can you guess which character is based on Persephone?
Granted, Pierce did whine a bunch and called her daddy to try and get her out of a situation, but itβs a teen book…I expect a little drama.Β That said, Iβm not really sure about the crazy talk from her recently released (from jail) uncle or why John really had to lack for dialogue.Β Not that I didnβt enjoy it, it just left a lot of questions Iβm hoping will get answered in the next book.
