First, let me start off by saying I love all of Marie Force’s books. LOVE! She builds wonderful characters and the yummiest of men. If only all men fell fast and hard for us doubting girls!
Maid for Love is the first book in the McCarthy’s of Gansett Island series. From the book cover:
Maddie Chester is determined to leave her hometown of Gansett Island, a place that has brought her only bad memories and ugly rumors. Then she’s knocked off her bike on the way to her housekeeping job at McCarthy’s Resort Hotel by Gansett’s “favorite son,” Mac McCarthy. He’s back in town to help his father with preparations to sell the family resort and has no intention of staying long. When Mac accidentally sends Maddie flying over the handlebars, badly injuring her, he moves in to nurse her back to health and help care for her young son. He soon realizes his plans for a hit-and-run visit to the island are in serious jeopardy, and he just may be “maid” for love.
Maddie is a life long resident of Gansett Island who, after a vicious rumor was started in high school, has become the town outcast. Mac, who’s parents own one of the island hotels and the businesses at the marina, is a hometown hero who could do no wrong. Mac comes home to Gansett to relax after a health scare, biding his time till he could make it back to Miami. One run in with Maddie and her bicycle changed all that.
Now, some may read this and say “Yeah, right…now one falls in love that fast.” And it’s true, a lot of the men in Marie’s story fall fast and hard for their women, but wouldn’t we all want that? Wouldn’t we want some hot guy want to take care of us and have his life’s goal to make sure we were happy everyday? YES WE WOULD! Mac falls hard for Maddie, which leads him to doing some things that he sees as ensuring her happiness. Do they piss her off? Yes. Should they have? Maybe. Was he wrong? Probably not.
On the flip side, we have Maddie. Given a horrible and so not true nickname by some jackass in high school has molded Maddie into a person who is very closed off to everyone, with the exception of her infant son Thomas. She has a really hard time dealing with Mac, because she keeps looking for the ulterior motive for Mac wanting to help.
If you’re looking for a fun, quick read with a hot guy, try it out. I think you’ll like it.
Favorite dialog from the book between Mac and his baby sister Janey after he’s asked her to buy a certain item for him:
“I love you, Janey. Have I mentioned that lately?”“Screw you.”Holding back a laugh, he said, “Get the extra large ones, okay?”“I hate you.”
