Irish film director Rill Pierce fled to the tiny, backwoods town of Vulture ’s Canyon, seeking sanctuary and solitude after a devastating tragedy. Once, his raw sex appeal and sultry Irish accent made women across the globe swoon. Now, he’s barely recognizable…
But Katie Hughes, his best friend’s sister, is not the type of woman to give up on a man like Rill. She blazes into Vulture’s Canyon determined to save him from himself. Instead, she finds herself unleashing years of pent-up passion. In a storm of hunger and need, Katie and Rill forget themselves and the world. But will Rill’s insatiable attraction to Katie heal his pain—or will it just feed the darkness within him?
Wow! I haven’t read an erotic books with extremely complicated characters, especially the male) in a long time.
Rill Pierce successful film director falls into a downward spiral after losing his wife. While on a layover in St. Louis, he rents a car and ends up in the backwater, small town of Vulture’s Canyon, Illinois. He spends the next year and a half drowning his sorrows in bottles of Jameson’s and solitude.
See, Rill has a background that he’s kept hidden from everyone in America, Not so much his background, but rather that of his loose with her morals mother and his wayward uncles. Determined to be nothing like them, yet afraid that’s exactly who he is, he decides it better to waste away in the middle of nowhere.
Katie Hughes has know Rill since she was fourteen. She’s been in crush and/or love with him for most of that time, but has kept her feelings to herself because he was best friends with her brother and then married to her best friend. She decides that after eighteen months, someone needs to help Rill break free from this depression and decides that it should be her. She hops in her fancy sports car and drives half way across the country. What she finds is not what she expected.
These two characters were great. Rill, being the tortured male who has a hard time dealing with who he is and if he is the reason events took place with this wife. He’s an ass for the majority of the book and constantly hurt Katie, but you could also see that he never meant any of it.
Katie dealt with her own set of issues. Fearing she was never good enough, especially for Rill in the shadow of his sophisticated and exquisite wife Eden, she constantly battled self doubt at the actions and words thrown at her by the man she loved.
Now this isn’t for the faint of heart. There is a lot of sex. I mean A LOT (it is an erotic book after all), but the sex was a major character in the story, since Rill had such a self image problem when it came to his sexual desires.
I enjoyed this one and I look forward to the next in the series.
