Joe Cantrell, owner of the Gansett Island Ferry Company, has been in love with Janey McCarthy for as long as he can remember. At the same time, Janey has been dating or engaged to doctor-in-training David Lawrence. When things go horribly wrong between David and Janey, she calls her “fifth brother” Joe, one of the few people in her close circle who lives on the mainland. Janey decides a few days with Joe is just what she needs before she goes home to the island to face her parents and family with the news of her broken engagement. It was bad enough for Joe loving Janey from afar, but having her in his house is pure torture. Will he take advantage of this opportunity to show her what they could have together? And what will Joe’s best friend and Janey’s protective older brother Mac have to say about it
Joe, Joe, Joe.
Joe Cantrell has known Janey McCarthy for most of his life. He’s most likely been in love with her for the same amount time. Unfortunately, for the past 13 years, Janey has been dating or engaged to Mr. Wonderful doctor to be, David Lawrence.
Joe has sat and watched Janey give up her dream in exchange for David living his, all while she worked at the Gansett Island Vet Office. He never said anything, because being Janey’s friend was always most important to him (poor Joe would take Janey any way he could get her).
So it’s Joe that Janey calls when she’s devastated by a discovery she made involving David. It’s Joe who puts EVERYTHING out there for Janey so she knows exactly where she stands with him…always. And it’s Joe I sat here routing for hoping he would get his happily ever after.
Janey is a sweet person and she totally deserves to have her HEA. I understand why she makes the decision to end things with Joe (even while it broke her heart), but your heart just breaks thinking about how Joe is going to deal with all this after the emotional roller coaster he’s been on thru the whole ordeal.
While Joe sorts through what all this means with Janey, he also needs to worry how this relationship change is going to effect his relationship with the McCarthy’s, his second family, and his best friend Mac. Mac knowing about Joe’s unrequited love of his baby sister is much different than knowing things aren’t so one sided.
While the emotional drama unfolds with Joe and Janey, we get to see Mac and Maddie tie the knot along with the other 3 McCarthy brothers. In addition, we’re set up for the next couple, Luke and Sydney (I have a feeling this one is going to be a doozy).
Another stellar addition to the series. Can’t wait for the next one.
