PAST WARS, PAST LIVES, PAST LOVES . . . CAN WE EVER REALLY LET THEM GO . . . AND SHOULD WE?

Ten years ago, U.S. State Department intelligence officer Jordan Weiss’s life was turned upside down when she was told her college boyfriend, Jared, drowned in the River Cam. In a shocking discovery, though, she realizes that things weren’t as they seemed and that she had been lied to and betrayed by those closest to her. Reeling from the shock— and the knowledge that Jared is still alive—Jordan resigns her State Department post and sets off in search of answers. Traveling to Jared’s last known whereabouts on the French Riviera, she encounters Nicole, a mysterious woman who flees after refusing to disclose what she knows about Jared.

Following Nicole across Europe, Jordan soon discovers that she is not alone in her pursuit— Aaron, a handsome and enigmatic Israeli, is chasing Nicole for his own cryptic reasons. Though distrustful of each other, Jordan and Aaron join forces on a journey that takes them half a world away, and only steps ahead of grave peril.

As Jordan draws closer to finding the answers that have eluded her for a decade, larger questions remain: Can she reconcile her attraction to Aaron with her unresolved feelings for Jared, the only man she ever loved? Will the truth be too devastating to handle or finally set her free?
Will she have a chance at happiness at last? Thrilling, romantic, and impossible to put down, A Hidden Affair gives us a brave and relentless heroine who never gives up on her search for the truth.

For ten year, State Department employee Jordan Weiss believed her college boyfriend, Jared Short, had drown. His loss shaped her into the woman she is today. The woman who can’t get close to another man because she feels as if she’s betraying Jared.

But her world is rocked even more when she finds out from her boss that Jared is most likely still alive. Not knowing whether to believe Maureen or not (as she’s lied to Jordan before), Jordan quits her job and decides she must follow the trail to see if he is alive. And if he is, find out why he left her and never tried to contact her.

While tracking a woman who is in an apartment that was the last known sighting of Jared, Jordan stumbles upon Ari. He states he’s also looking for the same woman as Jordan (her name is Nicole) but for a completely different reason. He suggests they team up to find her. Jordan’s not sure if she can trust him, but she goes with him hoping he’ll get her to her end goal faster. Instead, she finds herself smack dab in the middle of a wine counterfeiting investigation which involves Jared and the mysterious woman Nicole.

As a mystery/suspense story, this moved very slow. Jordan spent a lot of time in her mind and reliving her past with Jared and what she’s endured in the ten years he’s been gone. She ws obviously still hung up on Jared and spends many hours wondering why he faked his death, why he never contacted her and then when she finds out he’s involved with Nicole, why she’s still trying to get in contact with him.

When we did get to the whole wine counterfeiting mystery, it felt like it was a little rushed. We find out why the players were involved sort of as an after thought when we find Ari and Jordan back in England at the end of the book.

This is a sequel to Almost Home. While you don’t have to read this book first, it would most definitely be beneficial and help explain some of the inner conversations Jordan has with herself.
