Like being a sixteen-year-old vampire isn’t hard enough, Tessa’s throwback human genes make her an outcast among her relatives. But try as she might, she can’t get a handle on the vampire lifestyle and all the…blood.
Turning her back on the vamp world, she embraces the human teenage lifestyle—high school, peer pressure and finding a boyfriend. Jared manages to stir something in her blood. He’s smart and fun and oh, so cute. But Tessa’s dream of a having the perfect boyfriend turns into a nightmare when vampires attack the movie theatre and kidnaps her date.
Once again, Tessa finds herself torn between the human world and the vampire one. Will blood own out? Can she make peace with who she is as well as what?
Tessa appears to be your average 16 year old girl. She attends school during the days and hang out with friends at night. She returns home to a family who considers her as a troubled teen that needs to figure out her heritage. So what sets Tessa apart, she is half human and half vampire.
Tessa doesn’t want anything to do with her true bloodlines. She just wants to live a normal life as a human girl.
Tessa takes a night out with her friends which soon turns into a tragedy that makes her rethink her vampire ties. She is attacked by a vampire and her boyfriend is kidnapped. Tessa wants to know more since a truce has been effect for centuries. . Together with her vampire family and vampire friends Tessa soon discovers that they may have bitten off more then they can handle alone. A deep dark hidden underground world that one family alone can’t defeat by themselves.
Overall it was a very quick and easy read. I enjoyed how the book was set up into two different sections. The first being about how Tessa is your average rebellious teenager, trying to avoid her true heritage. The second half was about Tessa discovering her true heritage and how it could help her along her journey. It was enjoyable reading about how Tessa changes along the way and the new discoveries she encounters about her self.
The end of the book was very surprising and left me screaming for more. It has a bit of a cliffhanger ending!
