“Love at Absolute Zero” is about Gunnar Gunderson, a 32-year-old star physicist at the University of Wisconsin. The moment he’s given tenure at the university, he can think of only one thing: finding a wife. His research falters into what happens to matter near absolute zero (−459.67 °F), but he has an instant new plan. Channeling his inner salmon, he’s determined to meet his soul mate within three days using the Scientific Method. Can Gunnar survive his quest?
This was a book that had me laughing and then cringing because Gunnar reminded me of some individuals I know who resembled poor Gunnar in more ways than one.
Gunnar is a scientist who can really understand anything unless it has a scientific theory attached to it. He can’t understand why he hasn’t attracted a woman so he decides to take the three days it will require for his lab to be moved to conduct a scientific experiment. With his friends Carl and Harry aiding him in his experimentation, Gunnar enters the dating world with newly whitened teeth, braces and fresh laser eye surgery.
Poor Gunnar (as I kept calling him in my mind) it one of those geniuses who has no social skills whatsoever. Every conversation he was in with someone outside of the science community was painful and awkward. He was trying so hard that you really wanted him to succeed but at the same time you wondered how he was ever going to get the girl (eating parsley before a speed dating event and then having someone telling him his teeth looked like they were rotting because it was stuck in his braces!). Then, when it seemed like he had found “the one”, she turned out to be a complete flake and left Gunnar to figure out what to do after he’d rearranged his life for her.
A very entertaining and heartwarming look at romance from the male perspective.

This sounds like a refreshingly different style of romance and I love humor in stories.
