Vampire Amaury LeSang is cursed to feel everybody’s emotions like a permanent migraine. The only way to alleviate the pain is through sex. When he meets the feisty human woman Nina, a cure for his ailment seems within reach: in her presence all pain vanishes. Unfortunately, Nina is out to kill him because she believes he’s involved in her brother’s death. And she would succeed if only Amaury’s bad boy charm didn’t play havoc with her hormones and catapulted her into his arms and his bed every time she was near him. As every kiss brings them physically closer, danger is lurking and threatens to destroy the little trust they have in each other.
Ooohhh, Amaury was the kind of vampire that I like! Tortured by his gift (or curse as he sees it) he can feel everyone’s emotions. It doesn’t matter if they are human, vampire or other supernatural being, he feels it. His only outlet, to have to sex, which will relieve him of the pain and misery if only for a few minutes. He suffers but thinks he does a good job of hiding his misery from his friends. But he discovers that one that alleviates his pain when he meets Nina. Unfortunately, she also wants to fight with him and ultimately kill him.
Nina is determined to avenge her brother’s death by killing the vampires of Scanguards, who she holds personally responsible. He was the only family that she had left and she now feels like she left wondering by herself. When she meets the ultra sexy vampire, Amaury, she fights with herself about her need to kill him and her desire to be with him.
When the two to them get together, whether fighting or having sex, they burn up.
I enjoyed Amaury and Nina. He was used to using his good looks and charm to get what he wanted. She wasn’t about to give him an inch. Their fighting was their mating dance and then did it spectacularly.
The storyline with the vampire bent on revenge against Samson and the Scanguards vampire for the death of his wife was engaging and tied Nina’s interaction with Amaury perfectly.
An excellent addition to the Scanguards series. Definitely one to pick up.
