Charity Barlow wished to marry for love. The rakish Lord Robert wishes only to tuck her away in the country once an heir is produced.
A country-bred girl, Charity Barlow suddenly finds herself married to a marquess, an aloof stranger determined to keep his thoughts and feelings to himself. She and Lord Robert have been forced by circumstances to marry, and she feels sure she is not the woman he would have selected given a choice.
The Marquess of St. Malin makes it plain to her that their marriage is merely for the procreation of an heir, and once that is achieved, he intends to continue living the life he enjoyed before he met her.
While he takes up his life in London once more, Charity is left to wander the echoing corridors of St. Malin House, when she isn’t thrown into the midst of the mocking Haute Ton.
Charity is not at all sure she likes her new social equals, as they live by their own rules, which seem rather shocking. She’s not at all sure she likes her new husband either, except for his striking appearance and the dark desire in his eyes when he looks at her, which sends her pulses racing.
Lord Robert is a rake and does not deserve her love, but neither does she wish to live alone.
Might he be suffering from a sad past? Seeking to uncover it, Charity attempts to heal the wound to his heart, only to make things worse between them.
Will he ever love her?
Charity, a sweet and loving young woman who’s parents died tragically in a carriage accident. Being summoned to her godfathers house. She meets Robert her godfathers nephew, to learn her godfather passed away a few months ago also.
Robert, a dandy who tries to play carefree. Upon his uncles death, Robert inherited his uncles properties, and wealth if he married Charity. Thinking it would just be a marriage of convenience he set out to get Charity to agree to marry him.
The chemistry between the two was awesome from the beginning. Falling head over heels with each other quickly, but both are to stubborn to admit it. They go threw several patches of distrust and unease. Both trying in a way to make a pretty much prearranged marriage work.
The secondary characters were well written. The way character interacted was great.
The only problem I had with this book was that word, sentences, and it seemed in some parts whole paragraphs were missing. i found myself in several parts of the book trying to figure out what was supposed to be said, or what happened. a parts it was very confusing because it seemed like the vital parts were missing.
I really enjoyed the plot for this story, just some parts were hard to muddle through,

I love the story line. I love regency stories and this one sounds great.
Guest review by Sammy Sosa? Interesting reviewer name…more noted in baseball circles…LOL. Thanks for the review. That seems a bit odd about parts missing. Do you think it’s an editing issue? Peculiar…
The story sounds fun…typical historical romance (meant in a positive way lol), but what would definitely prevent me from buying the book are these missing parts/editing errors.
I’d be annoyed by that too much to enjoy the read.
