Cora deBeau agreed to serve as an undercover agent for the English Crown, knowing her scandalous decision would ruin her chances of ever having a family of her own–something she’s yearned for since witnessing her parents’ brutal murders. British and French intelligence know her only as the Raven and, for the last three years, she’s seduced secrets from the most hardened of French agents while searching for her parents’ killer. When her latest assignment goes awry, she endures several months of interrogation and torture at the hands of her French captor. Scarred and wary of men, Cora escapes back to England and shies away from the one man who could heal her savaged heart.

For years, Guy Trevelyan, the Earl of Helsford, has secretly decoded French missives for the Foreign Office. Unbeknownst to Guy, his latest deciphered message drives his childhood friend into the arms of England’s most ruthless enemy and the man responsible for her parents’ deaths. After rescuing Cora from a French dungeon, Guy discovers she’s the elusive Raven and realizes his role in her captivity. As Cora’s sworn enemy terrorizes her across England, will Guy be able to earn her forgiveness and convince her that she’s worthy of his love, or will he find the scars on her wounded soul run too deep?

Cora deBeau, an undercover agent, has been on a mission in France for three years. She knew before taking the mission that it meant her ruin amongst the ton. She has been seducing Napoleons agent’s for information, as well as to find out who killed her parents. Her latest target figures out her secret identity. He then holds her captive to interrogate and torture her for British secrets. She manages to escape with the help of her fellow agents, but once she gets back to England, there is no rest for her. Her French captor has followed her to England, wanting revenge for the embarrassment she put him through in front of the Emperor. She has been scared from the event and now shies away from all her friends and family, including the man who could save her from her inner demons.

Guy Trevelyan, the Earl of Helsford, an agent who is very good a decoding French missives, has been sent to France to rescue one of England’s top agents. So when he stumbles upon Cora in the dark dungeons, his old childhood friend and unbeknownst to him that she is the agent he has to rescue, he frees her from her chains. He brings her back to England, and is determined to stay by her side and keep her safe. And along the way Guy is determined to stay by her side for the rest of his days, no matter what Cora thinks of the matter.

Cora’s character was very believable. She has been put through a torture that not even the strongest of men would be able to handle but she was able to come out of it alive with the scars to show for it, the physical and the emotional. Then once her French captor comes looking for her, she doesn’t want her family and friends to be put in danger for her carelessness. She is stubborn and will do everything in her power to keep her friends and family safe while also looking for the man who murdered her parents.

I very much like Guy’s character; he is the knight in shining armor we want as a protector. He has been abandoned too many times in his youth, and will not do the same to those he cares the most about. He is the man that makes your heart flutter with all the little things he does for you, whether he is arguing with you are protecting you.

The action, the espionage, the romance, this book has it all. It keeps you on the edge of your chair not wanting to put it down. With every twist and turn Devlyn throws at you, you keep hoping for the happy ending that they deserve.
