When is a whole more than the sum of its parts? When it has ties to the quaint little town of Ruthorford, GA, as Morgan Briscoe discovers when a cryptic message threatens to change her life forever.
Morgan’s relatively normal life is turned on its ear when she learns not only that she is adopted, but her birth parents are dead and she now holds half-interest in a business with their ward, Dorian Drake, who, despite his riveting good looks, can barely conceal his hostility toward his new partner.
Morgan discovers that she is more than she seems and together she and Dorian have the ability to control a portal to another dimension. Unable to control their growing attraction, Morgan and Dorian dance around their desires and her burgeoning abilities, until danger forces them to face their destiny.
Morgana Briscoe’s life is turned upside down the day she’s summoned to a lawyer’s office in Atlanta. It’s in that lawyers office that she discovers that she’s adopted and that her biological parents have recently died in a plane crash, leaving her with a large sum of money, property in Rutherford, Ga that she shared with her biological parents ward. After confronting her adoptive parents about the secret they have kept, she decides to take a trip to Rutherford, Ga. The town is quaint, but nothing could prepare her for her electrical meeting with Dorian Drake, her biological parents ward.
Dorian has been trying to hold it together since his “adoptive” parents died, but his strength is seriously tested the minute Morgan walks through the doors of Shoppe of Spells. He didn’t know what he expected, but it wasn’t an almost exact replica of his mother or the realization that she is his mate.
While Dorian brings Morgan up to speed on Rutherford’s history, along with that of Shoppe of Spells and the type of life her biological parents and he lived, he also has to fight the growing attraction he has to Morgan. Can he do all that and figure out why Morgan’s ex-boyfriend is hanging around Rutherford, why one of their residents is missing and save the life of a thirteen year old girl?
I was surprised by this one. While the story was a bit sluggish in the beginning, it did get much better once Morgan has been in Rutherford for a few weeks. While Morgan may not have been my favorite character in the book, I did enjoy her interactions with Theresa, Jenn, John and especially Dorian.
It’s a quick read, with a really quirky plot (aliens jumping through portals and breeding with Scottish Highlanders??), but it was entertaining and suspenseful.
