Reviewer’s Thoughts:
Mermaids in Manhattan? Β Yep, a wealthy man picks the most beautiful women in the world to be ‘mermaids’ in his exclusive club. Β They are very well paid, live in a posh apartment and don’t have to worry about much…except keeping their virginity. Β That normally wouldn’t be a problem for Xenia, but once she meets Derek Prince, she knows she may have just met the one person that would make her give everything up.
This was a quirky read, but I did enjoy a spicy story told from a man’s perspective. Β Derek was a man who had pretty much given up on every finding ‘the one’ when he ran saw a very wet Xenia at the exclusive club. Β He couldn’t explain the draw to Xenia, but he didn’t fight it. Β One would think than a man over the age of 20 would go running in the opposite direction once he discovered the woman he was interested in was a virgin, had to submit to a weekly virginity testing massage and wanted to remain a virgin so she could keep her job. Β But not Derek. Β He agreed to date Xenia, get to know her and wait until she was read to leave Mermaids.
Xenia was an interesting character. Β I had thought she was from another country, because there seemed to be an ever so slight difference in the way she talked. Β To me, that attributed to herΒ naiveté about some things and her very open sensualness about being a mermaid. Β Boy was I surprised when I found out she was from Ohio. Β Which then lead to me to question why Xenia was the way she was…but unfortunately we didn’t have answers for that.
While this was a little different than what I normally expect for this type of book (meaning I thought the main couple would actually be the ones having the sex), it was still a story that captivated me enough to keep me wanting to know what happened next. Β I would have like a little bit more development between Xenia and Derek, I understand the author can only put so much in the allotted space.
