Guest Review: Hunk for the Holidays – Katie Lane

Posted July 28, 2012 by Shannon in / 0 Comments

Always putting business before pleasure, Cassie McPherson works hard for her family’s construction business. That might explain why she doesn’t have a date for the company Christmas party. But it doesn’t quite explain why she’s crazy enough to hire an escort for the event or – crazier still – why she’s dying to unwrap him like a present . . .
With whiskey-colored eyes and a killer smile, James is one gorgeous hunk who really knows how to fill out a tuxedo. He charms everyone, including Cassie. And when the night ends, the party doesn’t stop. As Cassie falls, literally, into his bed, James falls head over heels in love. Now he has to figure out a way to tell her the truth: he’s not an escort. He’s her family’s fiercest business rival. But all he wants for Christmas is her . . .

Reviewer’s Thoughts:

When a case of mistaken identity leads no nonsense Cassandra McPherson to bring her family’s biggest competitor to the company Christmas party hilarity ensues. Β With a family that includes but is not limited to 4 very large, very protective brothers, who still act like children, a great aunt who guzzles whiskey like a thirsty man in the desert and a father who continuously tries to sneak food he shouldn’t after a triple bypass, it’s no wonder Cassie feels safer hiring male escorts to be her dates to events.

I found Cassie to be a refreshing character, often heroines are made out to be very feminine women who need a big strong man to come to save the day and make everything better for them. Such is not the case here. Cassie is a tomboy, who grew up with four brothers, works at the family construction firm and rides a Harley. Used to giving orders and being in charge, she needs a man who is string enough to handle not just her but her large family, but gentle enough to show her that she deserves a little romance. It is obvious from their very first meeting that James and Cassie are made for each other.

I found not just the main characters entertaining but also the minor characters as well. Readers will absolutely love Wheazy and adorable Gabby. And, although I loved the sub-story between Rory and Amy, I felt that they deserved a story of their own.

This was my first book by Katie Lane but I can guarantee it won’t be my last, especially if we’re treated to another visit with the McPherson clan.
