Meg managed to survive her senior year of high school as a vampire, and now she’s looking forward to a relaxing summer with her friends before trying to tackle college. Unfortunately, some unfinished business from the previous year rears its ugly head and Meg is forced to deal with the Sidhe who are distinctly unhappy that she killed one of their kind last winter. Then Ann’s parents vanish while they are on their annual summer vacation in Maine and it’s up to Meg and the rest of the gang to come to the rescue. Though she is still trying to figure out who, and what she has become, Meg and her friends feel they are up to the challenge. That is until things really start to fall apart.

Reviewer’s Thoughts:

This book was amazing, like a mixture of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Scooby Doo but so much better than that. Β Casey Tam, was turned into a vampire in book one and in this book she is learning to balance her powers, love life and friendships. Β Throw in that her best friend’s parents have disappeared and a road trip to Maine to rescue them and you have one quick moving story. Β Wait, I almost forgot the most important part her best friend Ann’s boyfriend Alexander may or may not be her arch enemy.

Alexander is the typical brooding magical being who is supposed to be Casey’s sworn enemy because she’s a vampire. Although they don’t know it, they are seriously attracted to each other. Β How things work out between Alexander, Ann and Casey is believable and adds so much to this story. Summer Break Blues was so much fun that I read it in one sitting. Β The characters never take themselves too seriously and the mystery and romance keep everything moving. Β I didn’t read the first book in the series and didn’t feel as if I missed out on too much background information. Β However, the ending did leave me wishing that this was a stand-alone book and not part of a series because I wanted a resolution. Β Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to read the next installment.
