Reviewer’s Thoughts:
Still suffering from PTSD, Kat struggles throughout the book with keeping it together both mentally and emotionally. Sheβs not sure where she fits in with her new pack and sheβs still having nightmares about what she went through at a madmanβs hands. Jayceβs reintroduction into her life isnβt helping matters. Convinced that he had not wanted her as his mate when she was human, Kat has decided that Jayce will not claim her as his mate after sheβs been turned.
Jayce was unable to save Kat when she was kidnapped and it was another male shifter who changed her and was her rock during the change. That being said, it is not totally unexpected that Jayce would feel territorial when it comes to Kat.
I havenβt read the previous books in the Moon Shifter series, however, that didnβt impede me from following the progression of their relationship and whatβs happened to this pack thus far. It was incredibly easy to delve in to the story behind Jayce and Katβs tumulus relationship. There was a flawless perfection to the over all flow of the storyline. Even parts that would normally be considered slow, were really just a set up for something much bigger.
If I had to pick something I did not enjoy it would probably be Katβs eagerness to put herself into a situation so similar to what almost got her killed in the first place. I can believe wanting to exact revenge and doing everything in your power to take down the organization behind all these crimes. I just donβt see someone who canβt sleep through the night because of nightmares willingly endure the situation again.
Overall, Mating Instinct had a perfect amount of action to balance out the romance. Reus did a great job of setting up future books and storylines for us to follow. And she captured my attention enough that Iβll definitely be reading her work again.
