Review: Undeniable – Madeline Sheehan

Warning: This is not a typical love story. This is an all-consuming, soul-crushing, tear-your-heart-into-pieces story. It’s intense, gritty and raw, dark and disturbing, and it doesn’t happen overnight. This is an epic love story that knows no boundaries and has no time limits. It grows and develops—with hurt, sacrifice, and heartache—over the span of a lifetime.

Eva Fox is the princess of the Silver Demons Motorcycle Club. Growing up with bikers in the club lifestyle is all that she knows. When she’s a young girl, Eva meets the reason for her existence. Deuce West is the sexy, biker bad-ass of the Hell’s Horsemen Motorcycle Club. Like Eva, he was born and raised in the club—but that’s where the similarities end. Their first meeting is innocent, but as Eva matures into a woman, their chance reunions evolve into a fit of lust and love. Fate continues to bring them together time and time again, but their twisted journey is filled with pain, betrayal, and bloodshed that could tear them apart. Eva sees in Deuce what he cannot see in himself—a man worthy of love—and Eva spends her lifetime proving to him that her undeniable love is the one thing he can’t live without.

This is Eva and Deuce’s story.

It wasn’t easy.
Nothing worth doing ever is.
And love is worth everything.

Reviewer’s Thoughts

I couldn’t imagine that when the two main characters of this book, Eva and Deuce, met in a Riker’s visiting room when she was five and he was twenty three that I’d find myself routing for these two to leap over every obstacle put in their way (including themselves) to find their HEA.  But I was routing for them, despite the creepy age difference, rival motorcycle clubs, and a crazy “brother”.  It’s was definitely a much different story than I would normally find myself reading, but it was one I’m glad I picked up.

Eva Fox and Deuce West met while visiting their respective fathers at Rikers.  There was something, even then, that drew the two of them together.  That was the draw of this couple for me.  The fact that even at the first meeting, there was something there.  Deuce never acted on what he felt when she was that age or even when he saw her again at the age of twelve, but he was able to open up to Eva and express his feelings in a way he couldn’t with anyone else.

That’s not to say there weren’t things that really bothered me about them as a couple.  As they got older (meaning Eva was eighteen) they began this pattern of running into each other, having sex, saying hurtful things and Eva running back to her father’s MC.  It was an ugly pattern that left me wondering at times why neither of them could get their shit together.  Even when they tried to have a relationship, there was a lack a fidelity that made my skin crawl.  How could two people who cared for each other screw things up so badly?

The Motorcycle Club mentality (where the men could do what they wanted, leaving their old ladies at home while they whored around) bothered me.  I didn’t like they way they treated woman, even the ones they wanted to be with.  But, I understood what was trying to be conveyed and how that lifestyle and mentality played a HUGE role in Deuce and Eva’s relationship.  I didn’t like like, but I say it’s importance in the story.

Overall, I enjoyed Undeniable.  I may not have always liked the characters or even wanted them together, but the love story between the two of them and the number of years it took for them to get to their HEA made it worth reading the book.
