Reviewer’s Thoughts

A little bit sinful is full of genuine charm, emotion, and plot twists. Clarissa Kincaid is the heroine of this novel. She is bright, adventurous, and determined to marry George Wilbanks. She turns to Justin Rodale to help her with financial affairs and affairs of the heart. Justin is a friend of Clarissa’s brother, Marcus. Justin finds himself strongly attracted to Clarissa and while Clarissa shares the attraction she is determined to wed George.

At the point where Clarissa knows George’s kisses do not make her feel the same way that Justin’s kisses make her feel I thought she would come to her senses and pursue Justin. However, Clarissa has the voice of society and family in her head telling her who would make a good match for her and Justin’s name is not included on the list. Clarissa previously made a mistake and chose the wrong suitor and so she is afraid that she is unable to make good choices and even at the risk of making a fool of herself she follows others’ advice. This was a historical romance but being that I am a Southern girl this theme of following the dictates of society and marrying who you are ‘supposed’ to marry without real regard to love resonates with me. Clarissa employs some extreme methods to get her man in the face of all out opposition. Poor Justin defends her at every opportunity while pining for her to return his feelings and just when things seem as if they can get no worse Justin steps in to save the day.

Justin is in the top 5 on my book husband/boyfriend list. He is honorable, longsuffering, heroic, handsome, a considerate lover, and he is honest. He genuinely wants only the best for Clarissa and will stop at nothing to help her with all of her shenanigans. I absolutely adored him. I loved Clarissa’s character because she really was clueless and innocent. She couldn’t seem to help but get herself into sticky situations, but she never backed down from a challenge. This kept her character from being overwhelmingly annoying. This was a sweet, spicy read with memorable characters and interesting plot twists.
