Reviewer’s Thoughts
Larger than life X finally gets his story. Not surprisingly his unwilling mate turns out to be none other than Caprise, Nick’s sister. Not surprisingly, knowing his best friend’s violent tendencies and some of his dark past that still haunts him, Nick is far from happy about it. But with rogues chasing after them and a new entity coming after Caprise, there isn’t much that they can do except try to survive.
I will admit to having a bit of a thing for those bad boy characters. And if you are to be honest, so do you. There is just something about them. The tattoos, the scars, the nasty I don’t give a crap attitude all serve to just make them more fascinating. And X has them all in spades. I absolutely loved X and just couldn’t get enough. However, there was something about Caprise that just rubbed me the wrong way for the first half of the book. The contradiction that is Caprise blew hot and cold so often I was starting to worry about whiplash. Knowing that the rogues are out there, she seemed to relish putting herself and those around her in danger then would get upset whenever anyone tried to curtail her actions. I’m all for a strong independent heroine. In this case, I think the author may have gone too far and made Caprise borderline unlikable.
Luckily, it was easy to forget how annoying Caprise was as you get embroiled in the side story of Sabar, his rogue shifters and the mounting tension between Sabar and Darel, his right hand man.
If you are familiar with the previous books in the series, you definitely do not want to miss Passion’s Prey. Although it is not my favorite one in the series, you can’t beat the action and surprise twists in the plot.
