814rDrMZoSL._SL1500_When Tanny suggests he and Jim make brownies, it seems a simple enough task. Six hours later, when their masters come home, the kitchen looks like it’s been hit by a chocolate bomb. Will Jim survive Marcus’ reaction?

Reviewer’s Thoughts

I teetered back and forth for s while trying to decide between 3 stars and 4 on this one, finally deciding on 3 for many reasons. This is not to say that this is not a good story, it just didn’t hit the right spots for me, someone else may read it and think it’s the greatest short they’ve ever read. I’ll let you be the judge.

Brownies begins in rather an abrupt manner. When the story beings our two subs are in the kitchen making their millionth rack of brownies. Thus my first “huh?” moment. No mention of who they are or why they’re making brownies. Hell, if you are not familiar with the series and have not read the previous books, you’d have no clue that Jim and Tanny are subs. You would assume they are just 2 gay men spending the afternoon making brownies. It is not until their Doms enter the room that you, as the reader become aware that the men in the kitchen are subs. Jim’s reaction to his Dom irritated me to no end. His Dom is very loving towards him. Even, dare I say it, sweet? Yet he reacts by getting tense and fearful. This doesn’t mesh well with the way Marcus treats him.

So I think “Maybe I’m just reading too much into it.” It is a short novella after all. It’s not necessarily meant to be an in-depth look at the characters motivation. It just needs to be short, sweet and in the case or erotica, hot. So I reevaluated my opinion… is it hot? And again, I’m left a bit wanting. There is a lot of implied bdsm, but none actually in this novella and the sex scenes, although intimate barely rate a 3 on the steamy scale.

Keep in mind this is all just my opinion based on an incredibly short novella. I’d be interested to hear what you think though.

One response to “Review: Brownies – Michael Sean

  1. That is why I can’t get into novellas – they feel “unfinished” and you can’t start thinking “Okay, what happened before, why are they doing this…?” But sometimes I just want ot read something quick and fun.
    Great review.
