17839367True love does not exist…or so event planner Tessa Adams learns the day she gets jilted–twenty-four hours prior to walking down the aisle. One-night stands are much easier, and with sexy philanthropists like David Brenner, how can she resist? Now if she could just get rid of him. Had she known the biggest event of her career would be working for David’s father, she would have cut and run. Instead, she’s unwittingly become a part of his parents’ plan to destroy his life-long dreams. Will sacrificing her love protect him or be the ultimate betrayal?

Wealthy and gorgeous, David Brenner seemingly holds the world in the palm of his hand–his generous heart and infectious smile are just two in an endless stream of attractive qualities. But the one thing he wants, he can’t have–a repeat of the passionate night he spent in the arms of a skittish Tessa Adams.

His family’s far-reaching power threatens to crush their dreams. To prove his love, he would risk everything…but will the return of her ex-fiance be their final undoing?

Reviewer’s Thoughts

I fell in love with the male hero in this book. Β He was possibly the sweetest book boyfriend/husband I’ve ever read. Β I think this book also gets the award for being the one that caused me to shed the most tears. Β “Dibs” short for David Brenner and Rex a nickname for Tessa Adams are so perfect for each other. Β He loves to help and she’s still nursing a previous heartache. Β The author did an incredible job of bringing the two together. Β The greatest strength of this book is the emotion it pulls from the reader. Β I felt their turmoil, confusion, hurt, etc. just as if it was me. Β I couldn’t put this book down. Β I had to make sure they were going to be okay. Β The entire time I’m reading the book I am cheering for Tessa to emerge from her cocoon to live and love, and I’m hoping Dibs will be the man she needs. Β It was the best emotional rollercoaster ride I’ve had in a long time.

Now for the downside….

I would love, love to have given this book a 5, but Tessa’s character was annoying at the beginning, improved in the middle, and became nearly unbearable at the end. Β The author prolonged the resolution of Tessa and Dibs’ conflict for a far longer time than was necessary or believable. Β Tessa and Dibs had multiple opportunities to clear up their miscommunication. Β However the author chose to drag it out for several chapters. Β There was a nice tidy epilogue at the end, but by that time I was so frustrated with circling the HEA, reading overly dramatic antics of Rex(dry heaving and fainting), and an avalanche of small, tedious details that leant absolutely nothing to the story that I could have cared less. The book would have been so much better if Tessa’s character had been a lot less over the top drama queen and a lot more strong independent woman.

I am a lover of alpha males with dirty mouths, strong heroines putting alpha males in their place, and the Chicago Blackhawks. I'm a proud hockey mom who can often be found at the hockey rink cheering on my favorite forward, with my kindle close by.
