Reviewer’s Thoughts

THE LAST MAN ON EARTH is a delightful story about two people who work together and are having a secret affair.  Madelyn Grayson works for Fielding and Simmons an advertising agency in New York City.  Since Zack Douglas started working there eight months ago, they are constantly competing for accounts.  They are two stubborn, smart people with strong personalities.  When they are together you can feel the sexual tension between them and neither one of them will back down from an argument.  I love all their banter and heated debates.   Zack’s nickname for Madelyn is Red, which she detests.

Zack and Madelyn attend the same party, spend the night together and are surprised by the intensity of the encounter.  They decide to continue seeing each other without letting anyone else know, thinking they can work each other out their systems.  Zack has issues from his past which keeps him from making any type of commitment.  Madelyn wants marriage, kids and the white picket fence.

I liked both characters and understood their positions.  They cared about one another, but had different views about what they wanted in life.  I could feel their emotional turmoil and wanted them to work things out.  My only concern was the way Madelyn treated James, her childhood sweetheart.   She becomes embroiled in a love triangle and love triangles make me uncomfortable because someone always gets hurt.

This is Tracy Anne Warren’s first foray into contemporary romance and she did a wonderful job.  She is a gifted writer and I was instantly involved in the story, which has the feel of a fast paced comedy made in the forties.   I enjoyed this well written, witty story and I loved Zack, who is smart mouthed and movie star handsome.
