Reviewer’s Thoughts

Have you ever picked up a book that everyone loves and you’re left scratching your head?  That’s how I was with this one.  Despite it’s dark tone, I was left wanting so much more than I got from the storyline or the characters in this book.

Sloane has been searching for her missing sister.  A private investigator tells her that if she sells herself, she’ll get the information she wants about her sister.  OK…what?  She goes to the appointed meeting place and then proceeds to have mind blowing sex with this stranger.  Faster forward and Sloane is now a doctor and still looking for her sister.  A set of random circumstances brings Sloane face to face with Zeth, the man she sold herself too a few years before.   He makes demands, she caves and the story ends with a cliffhanger.

I liked the darkness to the storyline, but I felt like the storyline veered off in a direction that was implausible.  Maybe if we had more backstory for the characters things would have made more sense, but it almost felt like we started the story in the middle of the book and were left to try and figure out just what the hell was going on.  I didn’t feel a connection to the character to make me even care if Sloane found her sister or why Zeth was such an ass.  I just didn’t care and that’s not something I feel often when I read a book.

It could have been me (because there are many other reviewers on Goodreads who completely disagree with me) but this was one that I just didn’t like.
