Reviewer’s Thoughts

Mac Draper stays as far away from his home town as much as he can. Having come back for Memorial Day weekend to visit his mother, the trip dredges up memories about his childhood and abusive drunk of a father.  Thinking his visit will have him drowning in bad memories, Mac gets a pleasant surprise when he stumbles upon Lily St. Clare at a barbecue.

Mac hadn’t seen Lily since she disappeared from his bed after a night of passion, leaving him with a wrong phone number and the desire for more of her. Mac and Lily embark on a steamy no-strings-attached fling but wind up in trouble when the couple’s feelings for each other develop into something stronger.  Can Mac and Lily think about a future together or will Mac’s belief that he’s just like his father ruin his chances at something more?

The synopsis is what attracted me to the story but I just couldn’t get into it. The story was well-written but it couldn’t keep my interest. I’m not sure if it’s because I haven’t read the previous books in the series or if it was the lack of chemistry between Mac and Lily. I love small town books, but I couldn’t relate to the characters and wasn’t able to enjoy the story as much as I’d have liked to. While I wasn’t able to get into the story, it won’t deter me from trying other books from the author.
