Reviewer’s Thoughts
Risky Game is the third story in the Out of Bounds series by Tracy Solheim, and tells the story of golden boy wide received Brody Janik and awkward Shannon “Shay” Everett. Shay is currently working on her PhD, with an unpaid internship with the Blaze, and her willingness to spy on the Blaze players for a gossip blogger leads her right into Brody’s hands when he discovers her snooping in the locker room. Her discovery of his potential career ending health condition will lead to an uneasy alliance as she agrees to help keep his secret and assist him to monitor his condition.
The relationship between Brody and Shay was not an easy one, as both come into the situation not trusting the other, but I liked the way that it grew from nothing to really become something. The banter between the two kept me laughing, and they were able to let their personalities show when they were with each other, something they were not able to do around other people. Brody was too busy trying to be the golden boy while Shay was often trying to live up to her name as the smart twin, and both were able to come out a little stronger and more authentic at the end of the experience with each other. Overall a great book which brought together a sexy football player and an intelligent strong woman who ended up being amazing for each other.
