Matt Caynor’s whole world turned upside down two years ago when a car accident left his partner, Aaron Mayburn, in a coma. For months he remained vigil by his bedside, hoping for a miracle the doctors told him would never come.
Steve Pierce met Matt three months ago and took an instant liking to him. After a whirlwind romance the two find themselves falling in love and planning for a future together until a phone call comes in from the hospital that changes everything.
When Aaron wakes from his coma, Matt is forced to let go of the man heβs falling in love with to be with the one he thought heβd lost. With each passing day he finds himself walking a tightrope between gratitude and despair, not knowing that he might just be given everything he wants. If only heβs brave enough to take it.

Reviewer’s Thoughts
I really enjoyed this book.Β I wasn’t too sure at first.Β Yes, I do love menage stories, but I only like ones with two men and one woman, and I FOR SURE prefer M/M/F.Β I want everyone to touch and love each other.Β So, I took a chance on “When He Woke” from Taylor Brooks.Β She’s the writer who turned me on (literally, hehe) to M/M erotica.
This particular story is an all male menage.Β The plot is rather simple.Β Matt and Aaron are in love.Β A terrible accident leavesΒ AaronΒ in a coma that has lasted for nearly two years.Β Matt never really gives up hope, but after so long, he begins to live his life once again.Β Enter Steve.Β He and Matt begin a relationship, and it’s still in its fledgling stage when all of a sudden, Matt gets the phone call he never thought he’d get.
I found the concept of the story to be very interesting and quite emotional as well.Β For a minute, imagine what it would like to be Matt…facing a terrible tragedy and then, finally, after a really long time, starting to feel happy again, and all of a sudden your world is blown up yet again.Β This book is well thought out, beautifully written, and contains enough detail to let you understand what’s going on in the three mens’ lives without being overwhelming.Β The chemistry between Matt, Aaron, and Steve is great.Β There’s tension and a bit of angst, but it doesn’t go on for chapter after chapter until we’re all ready to curl up in our bed, watch chick flicks, eat Ben and Jerry’s, and cry all night long.Β The sex?Β Off the charts!Β Just so hot!
“When He Awoke” is relatively short read.Β I read through it in one sitting.Β Of course, I was completely drawn in and didn’t want to go to bed until I’d finished.Β It was also rather uplifting to read a story about three people who overcame extreme circumstances, and they still wind up happy.Β I highly recommend it.
