18806676The new, sexy Navy SEAL novel from New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh

THE FIGHT OF HIS LIFE

As the illegitimate son of Diego Fuentes, Ian Richards faces danger at every turn. Neither his father nor his fellow Navy SEALs knows which side he’s fighting for—or against. Which is exactly how the game must be played…until Agent Porter enters the picture.

STIRS HER DESIRE FOR LIVING

Kira Porter, undercover agent for the Department of Homeland Security, shadows Ian on his journey. She thinks she can see the real man beneath Ian’s bad-boy exterior…but the ever-elusive Ian keeps her guessing at every turn. Is his goal to protect the Fuentes cartel from French terrorists? Or to do his father in for good? The only thing Kira does know is that her attraction to Ian is a time-bomb waiting to explode. With time running out on the Fuentes mission, she and Ian are drawn ever close to the edge of desire—and even closer into the line of fire…

Reviewer’s Thoughts

Is he or isn’t he seems to be the theme of Killer Secrets. Some will say that the reader doesn’t know one way or the other if Ian is in deep cover or if he really has turned rogue and traitor to his country. As much as I would love to say this is so, it just isn’t. The truth is implied, although not outright announced several times. The true question however is if he is in deep cover working a covert opp … how far is someone willing to go before they lose their humanity? How long can Ian walk the gray line before he crosses it permanently? How much blood can be spilt before the act is no longer an act?

This suspense driven book was more than I expected. Although rather short on the romance aspect, one cannot deny that the action and suspense keeps you reading page after page. Normally I tend to stay away from suspense. They can be predictable and readers can guess at the ending less than halfway through. That was definitely not the case here. The surprise twists even had me going.

If I were to pick out something I did not enjoy, it would have to be Kira. For someone who supposedly cares so much for Ian, her actions continuously put Ian in precarious positions that can endanger his life and his opp, if he is indeed working one. Some may mention Ian’s personality flaws. He is brusque, curt, possessive and pretty much not a very nice person. He treats Kira more like a possession than someone he cares about. To that I say this… he explains it rather well when he is thinking to himself that if anyone were to guess how much she actually means to him her life is in danger. Plus he has been the head of the drug cartel for so long, I’m not sure he even remembers ever having a softer side.

Which brings me to the lack of romance. Yes… lack of romance. Suspense there is a lot of. Hot steamy sex there is so much of I would advise keeping a cool drink handy. However, actual romance? Not a bit. Killer Secrets is very much an edge of your seat suspense story. If you’re looking for moonlight and roses you’ve got the wrong book.
