Rather than coming between the two friends, she flees back to Boston. When Joshua and Ian find out that Olivia’s life is in danger, they realize that their friendship and Olivia mean more to them than any sense of betrayal. They recognize that to keep her they must learn to share her. Their background in law enforcement allows Joshua and Ian to protect Olivia while helping to discover who is behind the attempts on her life. While finding out who is behind the plot to kill Olivia, can they convince Olivia that the three of them are meant to be together and make a life in Fate Harbor?

Reviewer’s Thoughts

I really enjoyed “Protecting Olivia” from Caitlyn O’Leary. This is her second novel in the “Fate Harbor” series, and it’s obvious that she’s feeling more comfortable in her writing boots.

Olivia has come home to Fate Harbor to recover after being beaten nearly to death outside her office building in Boston. It was set up to look like a homeless man (or men) did this to her, but it goes so much further than that.

Olivia meets and falls in love with firefighter, Joshua. He falls hard for her too, and OH! How I love that he calls her “Kitten.” That’s so sweet and sexy, just like Joshua.

After a few weeks away, Joshua’s best friend, Ian, comes back to town. Ian’s a complicated character. He’s quite socially awkward, and he’s fiercely protective of Joshua because he had to see him through a very difficult time several years ago. He wants to meet Olivia to make sure that her intentions are good, and there is such an instant connection between the two of them. In fact, that may be my one and only knock on “Protecting Olivia.” I do believe in love at first sight. I really do, but I was disappointed in Ian and Olivia that they acted upon their feelings so quickly because I felt like it was very nearly cheating. Of course, it all works out in the end, and a delicious menage story begins.

I also feel the need to take a moment to say that, if any book should have been an MMF menage rather than an MFM one, this is it. Ian and Joshua do have a very special relationship that is heartwarming to read.Β  I think it would have been very natural for them to fall in love with each other as well as with Olivia. When the three of them come together, it’s just so magical. They’re hot, sexy, sweet, and perfect.

There is a very interesting background plot to the story. Remember that it was only SET UP to look like a homeless person(s) committed the beating of Olivia. We get a very exciting story involving corporate intrigue, violence, and money. It comes to a head in a very satisfying way, and I was actually rather pleased that I didn’t figure it out. I ALWAYS figure it out, and sometimes, that’s not any fun. So, congratulations, Caitlyn. You got me!

All in all, “Protecting Olivia” is a winner. I’d recommend it to just about anyone. Although some characters cross over from the first book of the series, “Trusting Chance”, they’re well explained, so this could be read as a stand alone. However, I liked that one as well, and recommend it as well. Ms O’Leary is one to be watched.
