Jumbotron Etiquette – What not to do!
A special guest post by Meghan Quinn, Author of Warning Track (just released) and a whole slew of other books!
The Jumbotron, besides the muscular men bending over in tight pants, has to be one of the most fascinating things at a baseball game. It’s people watching at an extreme level. While you sit at the game, you anticipate that moment, that very rare moment, where you just might get your face on the Jumbotron and I know from experience that there is a good way of portraying yourself and a bad way of portraying yourself. It’s time we go over a little Jumbotron etiquette.
I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly. Shaking your jelly when no one is ready can quite possibly ruin the Jumbotron experience for everyone in the stadium. Instead of lifting your shirt up and giving the stadium goers their own private wave with your stomach, try keeping all clothes on and giving the camera a little shimmy. This way, you look sexy and you’re still giving everyone a good show.
Just digging for gold. Let’s be honest, we all enjoy a good nose picking on occasion. You know, going back to the days when you were five and could get away with it? If you still like looking for little green treasures in your nostrils, I suggest instead of being an old scallywag in front of thousands of viewers, save it for the car ride home or if you’re really desperate, go to a bathroom stall and decorate the wall. (Blek, don’t do that.)
You stole my sunshine. Having the privilege of being featured up on the Jumbotron is a once in a lifetime opportunity, so when someone around you has the chance to wave, scream and dance, DO NOT step in front of them. I know you want your moment too and it might happen one day but stealing someone’s Jumbotron spotlight is like stealing their favorite vibrator (or any vibrator for that matter) you just don’t do it.
Cotton Eye Schmo. Let’s end the horrible phenomenon that this evil song has brought upon us. “Cotton Eye Joe” is a staple for every Jumbotron across America. What happens when it blares through the stadium speakers? People around the park lace the hem of their shirts through their neck holes, all of a sudden wear a pretend hat and start to “line dance”, and it’s a damn dream for every cameraman in the stadium. Instead of grabbing onto this horrible tradition, let’s release it, let go and if “Cotton Eye Joe” comes on at a baseball game, just nod your head and save your self-respect.
Swallow then smile. No, no, no, not that kind of swallow….ahem. I’m talking about swallowing your food and then smiling on the Jumbotron. No one likes a nacho cheese infested grin spread across the Jumbotron so make sure that smile is clear. Good practice to conform to is be ready at all times and in between innings, don’t eat. Just smile the whole time and prepare for your camera shot, once the inning starts back up, shove you face with everything in sight. Simple!

Things are starting to heat up in Atlanta, or at least in Jane’s celibate life of two years. On the two year anniversary of her nasty split between her and her ex, Jane’s friends, Molly – class “A” filthy mouth – and Albert – flamboyant dresser extraordinaire – decide it’s high time Jane drops the conservative persona, let loose and start to have some fun once again.
Brady Matthews, Atlanta Braves first baseman and well known through the media as Atlanta’s gigolo, thought he was just taking his new teammate, Michael Banks, out on the town. Little did he know Michael’s friend from college, Jane, was going to show up at their table and turn his world upside down.
When Brady meets Jane, he is instantly attracted to Jane’s innocence and inner sex kitten but the last thing she wants is to be thrown into another relationship with such a publicly known man-whore especially after her heart was broken so devastatingly. Brady makes it his mission to win Jane over and make her see him as the man he actually is, not the way the media perceives him. But it is not that simple. Wedding plans, spring training, ex’s, old college friends, the paparazzi and gossip magazines seem to keep getting in the way of Brady’s goal to earn Jane’s heart.
Caught Looking goes through the love lives of Jane, Brady and their group of friends fighting the hardships of cheating, trusting, losing love and trying to find it once again. In one of America’s hottest cities, the gang heats up the sheets while their lives entangle together causing heartache, suffering through loss and finding love….hopefully.
When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn’t take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch, besides “The Notebook” I made time to read that heart-breaking novel.
It wasn’t until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books, I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven’t turned back since.
You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.
I am currently residing in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.
