Max Crawford has reached the point in life where he’s starting to think about settling down. Unfortunately, he’s always been a little awkward when it comes to social interactions, and working from home doesn’t help. He spends so much time alone, painting beautiful, historically accurate model trains that half of Whitford has begun to joke that he may be a serial killer. Not exactly prime husband material.
Tori Burns has found happiness in Maine, thanks in large part to her shifts at the Trailside Diner. She likes the work, and she loves the local gossip. When shy, geeky Max Crawford becomes a regular, she’s intrigued. When she finds out he’s in the market for a wife, she’s fascinatedβ¦and determined to help.
Molding Max into every woman’s dream turns out to be much easier than expected. But has Tori’s plan worked a little too well? As she turns his comfortable life all sorts of upside down, she’ll have to find a way to show just how she’s fallen for himβ¦the real him.

Max Crawford, heβs shy, awkward and a bit set in his ways, so when he decides to find a wife, he goes all out with a list and everything. I really loved Max, maybe because I understood his quirks and the way he processes things.
This story was a bit refreshing, since it wasnβt the hero who was reluctant for a permanent relationship. He was ready for kids, the whole nine yards.
Enter Tori Burns, who is determined to help Max find a wife. She doesnβt want to get married ever, with her parents as the example of how badly things can go. If anything her reluctance got to me, I kept wanting to yell, Max is perfect, go for it.
I really loved the whole town, and all of the secondary characters and although this is the ninth book in the series, and my first foray with this author, I can truly say that it didnβt matter. This can be read all by itself, Ms. Stacey does a great job of introducing everyone in a way that I wasnβt lost, and in brief enough manner that I think even fans of the series would be hard pressed to find fault with it.
I highly recommend this story, itβs a great friends to lovers story with that happy small town feel, that left me smiling and satisfied.
