Caught between desire and loyalty…

Derek DiMarzio would do anything for the members of his disgraced Special Forces team–sacrifice his body, help a former teammate with a covert operation to restore their honor, and even go behind enemy lines. He just never expected to want the beautiful woman he found there.

When a sexy stranger asks questions about her brother, Emilie Garza is torn between loyalty to the brother she once idolized and fear of the war-changed man he’s become. Derek’s easy smile and quiet strength tempt Emilie to open up, igniting the desire between them and leading Derek to crave a woman he shouldn’t trust.

As the team’s investigation reveals how powerful their enemies are, Derek and Emilie must prove where their loyalties lie before hearts are broken and lives are lost. Because love is too hard to come by to let slip away…

Reviewer’s Thoughts

So, having just finished Easy and Jenna’s story, I was worried that there was absolutely no way that I would enjoy Derek and Emilie’s story as much.  I cried multiple times while reading Easy’s book and I couldn’t stop thinking about him afterwards.  Hard to Come By was an excellent installment of one of my favorite series, Hard Ink.  Derek’s story didn’t disappoint but Laura Kaye hasn’t disappointed me yet!

The comraderie between these guys is the glue of this story and of course we all love the romance aspect.  Derek “Marz” DiMarzio is the kind of guy you want your daughter to marry.  He literally threw himself in front of his best friend Beckett Murda to save his life.  He is selfless and a true hero.  He didn’t think twice about putting himself in harm’s way which ended with him losing a leg.  The story for the Hard Ink guys continues as they look for their next clue in figuring out who set them up.  Manny Garza, another former solider, is who the guys need to answer some questions and of course the trail leads them to his sister, Emilie.

There is an immediate spark between Derek and Emilie and he doesn’t like deceiving her even if it is too help his  brothers/friends.  I loved reading their relationship unfold through the lies and deceit to something beautiful where  truths are told and both of them are able to come to terms with what needs to be done/said.  Derek can actually share his pain from losing his leg with Emilie and she can be honest with him over how terrible she feels about Manny and the situation he has gotten himself into.

I love these books and they always end before I want them to!  I loved the sneak peak of Katherine Dixey.  Man, she is a firecracker.  I assume we will see her take on Beckett!  Can’t wait! Another fine book, Ms. Kaye.  Well done.
