Reviewer’s Thoughts
As is typical in every biker romance you will encounter, you get the expected good girl that has the misfortune of falling for the hot, bad boy biker scenario. Of course you also get all of the angst and conflict that comes from such a mismatch. Reaper’s Stand is no different in that aspect. It’s the concept that a good girl can attract such a man and garner not just his affection but also his loyalty that draws us to this type of romance novel. In that, again, Reaper is no different. Anyone that has read any of the previous Reapers MC series novels is familiar with Picnic and if they are honest has steadily fallen a little bit more in love with him with every one of his actions. He is the quintessential drool-worthy biker and every woman 16 to 80 would love to be the woman to catch his eye.
Picnic is a bad boy through and through. He doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what he is and he makes no apology for who he is or what he does. How could this possibly not appeal to any red-blooded woman with a pulse? Although I abhor some of his actions in his attempt to get Lonnie’s attention, I found myself smiling at the oddest of times. The feelings he refuses to admit to reduce him to acting like a 16-year-old adolescent with a crush on the unattainable girl, trying to get her attention. It was downright endearing in a clueless male sort of way.
It’s a sad turn of events when you’re in trouble and a bunch of dangerous bikers involved in all sorts of illegal activities is your only hope. This is Lonnie’s situation and what draws her deeper into the Reapers way of life. Drama abounds and there is never a dull moment when dealing with the Reapers. It’s September and we all want to go on a Picnic.
“Are you gonna sit down or not?” he asked.
“I’m really uncomfortable with”—I gestured toward the woman—“this.” “That’s not exactly my problem,” he said, dropping a hand to rest on her head. “But if it’s an issue, you can take her place.”
“No,” I said quickly.
“Then sit the fuck down and tell me why you’re here.”
His voice tightened, and I realized he was running out of patience. Fair enough—he obviously had other things on his . . . ahem . . . mind. I carefully perched on the edge of the couch, facing the door. This was actually better, I realized. I didn’t have to look at him now. Although I could feel the woman’s movements through the furniture frame and that was very creepy.
“My cousin’s daughter is somewhere at this party,” I said quickly. “Her name is Jessica, and she has very poor judgment. I’d really like to get her out of here and home before she does something completely stupid.”
Like set the building on fire.
“You got shit timing.”
I didn’t respond, because what the hell would I say? So far as I knew, Hallmark didn’t make a “Sorry I Interrupted Your Oral Sex” card.
