Review: Falling Slowly – Remmy Duchene

3.5 Cocktails

I wanted to love “Falling Slowly”. With all my heart, I did. It had a lot of potential, and the blurb sucked me in. Anyone who knows me can tell you that I am totally into short, sweet, sexy and VERY intense man love stories. I was in a different mood when I grabbed this one. I wanted real romance, not just a sweaty passion, and this seemed like it would fit the bill.

Steven is a young man whose military career was cut short due to an injury, and he doesn’t have many opportunities when he comes home. So, he takes a job as a male stripper in a gay club. He’d had dreams when he was young, but they just seem so out of reach now, and he’s just accepted that. Tim is a vice cop, and he’s searching for Steven. Not because he’s done anything wrong, but because he’s got a sealed envelope from his (Tim’s) deceased father. It seems that he’d been mentoring young Steven before he passed away. Tim barely remembers him because he’s quite a bit older, but Steven remembers Tim. He’d had an intense crush on him as a youngster. When they finally meet up, they see that they’re both being given an opportunity…Steven to live out his dream, and Tim to take some time to relax and think about where his life is going. Together, they begin a journey that takes place in the beautiful setting of Greece.

Remmy Duchene does paint a lovely, detailed picture of the island setting. You can actually see the beauty as you read. Also, you can feel what Tim and Steven must be going through as they take tentative steps toward each other and eventually fall in love. The story flows well as they explore their feelings, both past and present. I can also tell you that, even though I wanted a romance, I got the bonus of some really hot, sweaty passion as well. Seriously, REALLY hot.

Now, the reason I’m only giving this one only 3.5 stars isn’t because I had a problem with the characters, story, or setting. I have an issue with the poor editing. Some people may consider that to be a petty thing, and I can normally overlook a lot, but with “Falling Slowly” is was actually distracting. I feel really sad to have to say that. Of course, not everyone is like me, so I’m definitely going to recommend this book for those who don’t feel the same.

It’s got everything…romance, sex, a great story, and a beautiful setting. If these things are more important to you than the editing, you should check this one out.
