Rebecca Joyce really made the characters come alive in Gabriels Heart. Gabriel intrigued me in previous books by Rebecca but she really made him come alive and hearing about his upbringing made you feel like you knew him. You can see how Antionette and how she grew up affected how she came to the decisions she made and her confusion regarding Alexander, Gabriel’s friend. The three of them must overcome many obstacles. The book starts off drawing you into it and making it where you are unable to put the book down. The pace of the book was perfect. The amount of background information was enough that if you haven’t read any of the others in The Men of Treasure Cove series you will have no trouble reading this one. It also helped you identify with the demons the characters of Gabriel, Antionette and Alexander have to face regarding their own demons and those of each other.

The plot of the book was something that kept on the edge of my seat. You understand the conflict that Annionette’s family has to face and the warring emotions that it causes everyone. There were times I wanted to throw my tablet down and scream at Gabriel. She really made him come alive. Annionette was able to bring tears to my eyes and Alexander made me laugh. Rebecca is amazing about drawing you into the book and makes you want to read more of the people of Treasure Cove.  The book’s dialogue is real. I like how she doesn’t use flowery and “girly” terms and the characters talk how you would when involved with someone. This is another great book in the series of The Men of Treasure Cove. I recommend not only the book but the series.
