Cecil Montgomery took one look at Manuel Lopez and knew he wanted the handsome Marine in his life. Convincing Manny of that might be harder than anything Cecil has ever faced before, especially when fate seems determined to keep them apart.
After one night of passion in the arms of Cecil Montgomery, Manuel Lopez runs in the other direction. Besides the fact that Cecil is so gorgeous he makes Manny ache, the man is rich, and Manny has a deep hatred of anyone with money, a hatred that goes back nearly twenty years.
When confronted by the man that started it all, Manny realizes he might have made a mistake, but by then, itβs too late. Cecil wants nothing to do with him. Worse yet, Cecilβs life is in danger and Manny and his fellow Marines might not even be able to save him.

Reviewer’s Thoughts
“Waiting to Breathe” from Stormy Glenn (Book five of the “Special Operations” series) was a book that I almost put down. Let me give you a bit of a rundown.Β Manny Lopez is a tough Marine, and Cecil Montgomery is a wealthy businessman. Cecil has wanted Manny ever since he laid eyes on him. The story beginsΒ with a very hot sex scene between the two. Did I say hot? I meant molten. I was hooked. Until the next chapter.
Manny goes on a mission and is shot. Cecil dashes to the hospital to be with the man he loves, and hears Manny shouting that he didn’t want to see him. HeΒ even shouts that the only reason he took the mission was to get away from him. Cecil’s heartbroken, and so am I. Turns out that Manny has a real hatredΒ (bordering on obsessive) for people who have a lot of money. In fact, he thinks that Cecil is trying to buy him and own him like an object. He thinks theΒ only reason that Cecil looked devastated when he left the hospital was purely because he didn’t get his way. To him, they’re all spoiled and entitled, and heΒ wants nothing to do with them…or Cecil.
The reason that I wanted to put the book down at that point was that Manny was being an a$$hole. Seriously. An honest to goodness, infuriating, horrible,Β mean son of a bitch. I thought that Cecil, who was downright awesome, deserved way better, and it made me sad that he was pining away for Manny, whileΒ Manny was acting so evil. I announced to my husband that the only reason I was going to finish “Waiting to Breathe” was because I felt obligated to sinceΒ I checked it out to review.
OHMYGOODNESS!! I’m SO glad that I kept going! I’m going to try very hard to not give too much more of the plot away, but I want to give you just a littleΒ bit of information to let you know what changed my mind. A series of events leads Manny to finally come to his senses and realize that he really wants/needs to have Cecil in his life. He admits that he’s in love with him and goes to claim his man. Something shocking awaits Manny when he finds him. YetΒ another series of events leads to a nicely written mystery and a LOT of great action. All of the Special Ops men come together to protect their loved ones,Β and follow the trail of a VERY bad man. Oh, and the ending? SOOOOOOOOOOO satisfying!
I’ve loved other books from Stormy Glenn. She’s never disappointed me, and “Waiting to Breathe” is living proof. I went from not wanting to finish it toΒ absolutely loving it. I’ve not read the first for books in the “Special Operations” series, but I didn’t feel lost by jumping in at number five. ThereΒ was a decent amount of exposition without it taking up too much of the story. After enjoying this one so much, I’m going to be checking out the previousΒ books in order.
I highly recommend this one. Once you push past Manny’s little “issue”, you’ll be so happy you read it.
