I was seven when I swallowed my first needle.
My mom freaked out and rushed me to the emergency room.
She stayed by my side all night.
I never wanted it to end.
When you spend your whole life feeling invisible-when your parents care more about deals and deadlines than they do about you-you find ways of making people take notice. Little things at first. Then bigger. It’s scary how fast it grows. Then one day something happens that makes you want to stop. To get better. ToΒ bebetter. And for the first time, you understand what it’s like to feel whole, happy . . . loved. For the first time, you love someone back.
For me, that someone was Drew.

Tell us about yourself. Iβm S.K. Falls, and I write both contemporary fiction and speculative fiction. Oh, and Iβm hopelessly addicted to chocolate.
What three things about you might surprise your readers? 1. Iβm in grad school to be a therapist. 2. I didnβt move to the US until I was 15, but I donβt have a trace of an Indian accent left UNTIL I talk to family back in India. Itβs like Iβve got mulitple personalities; totally bizarre. 3. I can read (but not understand or speak) Arabicβa curious leftover side effect from the time I spent living in the Middle East as a kid.
Is there a genre(s) that you think βI might like to write one of those.β? Hmm, so many! Iβm a total genre hopper, having written dystopian, paranormal romance, and contemporary romance. Iβd love to write creepy middle grade someday.
Tell us about One Last Song. Well, at its heart, One Last Song is the coming of age story of one (majorly flawed) girl. Itβs also a love story. Saylor Grayson, the protagonist, suffers from Munchausen syndromeβshe makes herself sick for attention. When she meets and falls in love with Drew Dean, a boy with a debilitating illness who believes she has multiple sclerosis, she knows itβs only a matter of time before her lies bring everything she cares about crashing down.
Where did the idea for the storyline come from? I suppose it came from some deep, twisted part of my psyche, a place Iβm reluctant to let other people see but which, funnily enough, provides the best story fodder.
What do you think readers will like/love about Saylor and Drew? I think their relationship is real. Itβs not all roses and moonlight. Saylorβs fears are very real, and Drewβs vulnerability is, too. I think thatβll resonate with people who have beenβor are inβan imperfect relationship (and which relationship isnβt?).
What was your favorite scene from the book? I love the scene(s) in the cabin on Lake Icarus. I cried a lot while writing those.
Who are some of your book boyfriends?Β What draws you to them? My most steadfast book boyfriend (since eighth grade!) has been Sir Percy Blakeney from The Scarlet Pimpernel. Love him and his English dashing-ness.
If you had to pick a favorite cocktail of choice, what would it be?Β (It can be non-alcoholic too) Hmm, Iβm not too choosy. I love lime-y cocktails, so maybe a mojito!
Whatβs next for you? Iβll be juggling a few writing projects, but I donβt like to talk about them ahead of time. Letβs just say I hope itβs going to be really amazing!
2014 IPPY award-winning author S.K. Falls believes a degree in psychology qualifies her to emotionally torture her characters in an authentic fashion. When she isn’t writing her twisted love stories, she can be found gallivanting around Charleston, SC with her family.Β
