Nicole Bradford’s fantasy comes to life when she meets Max Paradis in the flesh. They have instant chemistry. Neither of them wants to deny their attraction but Nicole has some complications. Nicole works hard to care for her younger sisters, but she works even harder to keep part of her past hidden from the world. That dark past crops up in the form of Carlo. Max also has some things in his past that he would like to remain hidden.
All of the characters were very realistic. I loved that Nicole and Max had to reveal their pasts to build a future. I liked how the author exposed the hypocrisy of judging another person’s past. She also did an excellent job of showing how past experiences color the ability to perceive current situations. You could feel the loving bond between Nicole and her sisters. The heat between Nicole and Max was super hot. They were friends and lovers. Even though the book was a novella I never had the sense that the relationship was rushed. It seemed like everything just fell into place.
I loved the surprise twist at the end. It made the interactions with Carlo make a lot more sense. I finally understood why she didn’t go to the authorities and why she just wanted everything to go away.
This was a short read that kept me engaged.
Thanks for the great review, Michelle!
