When I was ten, my father indoctrinated me into the family.
A brotherhood who would fight, protect, and give their lives for one another. A club whose ties ran thicker than blood, murkier than the dirt and grime that tainted my soul. Stronger than the bonds that connected me to my own family.
A band of brothers, where loyalty was kept and paid in a currency of blood.
When I was twenty-seven, I betrayed that brotherhood.
Iβve spent every day since running, avoiding paying back that debt.
My name is Daniel Johnson. Β I have betrayed everyone I ever loved.
And Iβll betray her too.
This is my storyβif youβre screwed up enough to want to read it.

Author Carmen Jenner has a warning in the beginning of this book and it’s a warning all readers should seriously consider. Β This is not a book for the faint of heart, especially if rape is a trigger for you.
I love MC stories and having been recently introduced to her Sugartown series, I was eager to read KICK (since Kick has a role in what happened in Sugartown). Β But I suddenly discovered KICK was much darker and much more disturbing than any MC story I’ve read.
Kick was in a bad place and given how he was raised in his previous MC, he was a hot mess when it came to his life and to his woman. Β He may have been a bit of a bastard when it came to the woman in the club, but he did have a soft spot for those with a broken spirit. Β But when they found Indie, the part of Kick that couldn’t watch a woman suffer, stepped up and proved there was a lot more to Kick than what we see.
I think that is why I kept reading KICK, despite the urge to put it down. Β Kick wasn’t a good guy. Β He was raised in the MC life and it was a life that lived well on the wrong side of the law. Β He’d done a lot of of bad things, butΒ there was that little flash of “doing the right thing”, especially when it came to certain woman. Β By no means was Kick someone that I would root for or that I would add to my book boyfriend list, but I saw enough of a flash to cringe my way through the book.
A rather disturbing start to the Savage Saints series and it’s set a dark tone for the series. Β I’m interested in what direction Carmen Jenner will take us next.
I pick up a cup of cold, stale, black coffee and chug it down. It tastes like shit, so I screw the cap off of a bottle of Jack and chase the black filth with the burn of amber. I set it back on the table while the familiar click of my gun being cocked echoes through my small room. I laugh. Fucking ballsy bitches make me hot.
βHands in the air, and turn around. Slowly,β the woman says through a scratchy throat. I do as she asks, mostly because I want to keep my spine intact, but also partly because bitches with guns are fucking hot, and Iβm hard as a rock just thinking about the way sheβs gonna look with a pistol trained on me.
Sheβs been busy while I was out, rummaging through my drawers and finding a pair of loose tracksuit pants. Theyβre rolled at the waist, so much that it makes her look pregnant. That, combined with her crazy fuckinβ cat lady hair and the filth covering her body, makes her look like a homeless person.
I smile and clasp my hands behind my head. Her eyes rove over me, taking in my size. Sheβs checking me for the arsenal I so obviously have stashed away in my fucking worn, faded jeans. Sheβs not checking me out and dreaming about me taking her rough and hard on my fucking scratched-up dining table, but I still get a fucking boner out of having her eyes roam all over me.
βPick up the keys, and open the door,β she commands.
βIf you run, theyβll shoot you.β
βPick up the fucking keys.β
I snatch up the keys and lob them at her, hard enough that she has to twist out of the way. She cries out as she does, proving to me that her ribs are definitely injured, maybe even cracked. I lunge at her. Shoving her back against the bed, I land on top of her, warding off her blows with one hand and squeezing her wrist with the other until she drops the gun on the floor.
βGet off me!β she screams.
βYouβre not leaving this clubhouse,β I whisper in her ear as she struggles beneath me. βThe best you can hope for is to play nice and I might decide to keep you as a house mouse. But if you piss me off, and if you pull on me with my own gun again, your life will be so much worse. You thought the dentist was fucked up? Baby, you havenβt seen anything until youβve lived inside my fantasies for a day. So if I were you, Iβd be really fuckinβ careful about how you play your next move.β
Carmen Jenner is a thirty-something, USA TODAY Best Selling Author, doctor, pilot and CIA agent. Β She’s also a compulsive, flagrant prevaricator who gets to make things up for a living.
While Sugartown may not technically exist, Carmen grew up in a small Australian town just like it, and just like her characters, she always longed for something more. They didn’t have an Elijah Cade, though.
If they did, you can be sure she would have never left.
