three-half-stars

When Brody Morgan comes back to Clifton from Butte, it’s because his life is in turmoil. He slept with a married woman, lost his US Marshal job, and is firmly implanted in the crosshairs of a mobster that is out for blood. Not only that, but the woman he’s always loved, Madilyn Young, isn’t too happy with him either, since he left her five years earlier to join the Marshals.

But none of that matters now. Brody is back, and determined to turn his life around. That will all start with Maddieβ€”if she’ll even speak to him, that is.

And then there’s the little matter of the mobster, the husband of the woman from Brody’s past. Will he be the one who brings Brody and Maddie closer together, or will he tear them apart forever?

Rina’s Thoughts

I’ve read the first two books in this series and they were great. The last better than the first, the story distinct from each other even with the same setting but Brody’s story. it was good but it kind of fell short to expectations. Brody goes away leaves the love of his life behind but comes back when his job doesn’t work out. Madilyn the woman who refused to go with him feels slighted even though it was her own fault. But everything works out, quicker than the norm but I was glad for that. I really don’t like it when guys apologies when the woman is at fault.

Then a horror from Brody’s past is introduced and even that ends quicker than normal. I guess what I’m saying is I wasn’t given time to get immersed in the story and the characters because it all went by too fast. Maybe if the reconciliation and the threat were concurrent, plus a litle back story it would have been more engaging. It felt more like a rest stop before the real story in the subsequent stories.

But I still love this series and I’m looking forward to the next books especially Sam’s and Wyatt’s stories.
