After a meteor attack a group of men are brought together by the World Council called MYSTIC. MYSTIC is a group of men with multiple powers known as celestials. They are only brought in to deal with Nefariouses, men with powers used for their own evil, twisted purpose.
Maxim is a MYSTIC agent. He can change the weather, shoot fire, and even turn into metal. He fears very little, until he meets his mate, Quade Sanders.
Quade Sanders is renowned. He has saved hundreds of lives with his gifts of clairvoyance, precognitive abilities, and mind-reading capabilities. However, Quade's inability to use those gifts on Max makes understanding why Max refuses to actually mate with him not just confusing, but painful.
Someone is using video games to rape and kill, and Quade and Max must try and help find the killer before he can strike again
Kenna’s Thoughts
What an interesting book! I picked it up because the blurb intrigued me, and I’m so glad I did. It’s the third book in the “Mystic” series, and I didn’t read the first two, but that’s ok. I didn’t really feel lost. I caught on pretty quickly.
In the future, there is a group of men called MYSTIC, who are like superheroes. They have all sorts of nifty powers that they use to save the world from evil. I love superheroes, and this is a great concept. In “The Tin Man’s Heart” we have Maxim (Max) who can shoot flames out of his hands, make the weather change, and turn into metal. His mate is Quade, who can read minds and see the future just by touching a person or object. They, along with the other guys are on the trail of a murderer who is committing crimes and killing prostitutes, just like in the video game, Grand Theft Auto. It’s only a matter of time before he kills again, so Max and Quade have to work together with the other guys to capture him and get him off the streets.
While that is going on, they have to negotiate their feelings for each other. Max shows a reluctance to actually mate with Quade, and Quade feels rejected. He also has an issue with knowing what everyone around him is thinking all the time. The only person who can quiet his thoughts is Max. Finally, in the middle of all the chaos, they are able to talk about their feelings and what’s holding them back, and they’re ready to mate and be together.
This is a great story, and I enjoyed it very much. The writing is nicely detailed. In fact, if I was to come up with a one flaw in this book, it would be that there is a bit too MUCH detail (a teeny, weeny, itty, bitty bit). While I’m happy to read an action oriented tale, I am a romantic at heart, and I like to have my heroes spending a lot of time together. There is so much going on in “The Tin Man’s Heart”, I felt that their romance (and sex…can’t forget the sex) falls by the wayside a little. Don’t get me wrong…there was a lot of romance and very hot sex to be had, and it was written beautifully. There are a lot of characters, and some of them are obviously being set up for their own books, and I found myself wishing that I could have more of Max and Quade. This is a minor issue for me, and it didn’t keep me from liking this book. Do not let it stop you from getting this one.
I’m so happy to have discovered a new series, and I’m excited to go back and get the first two stories. I’m also going to be watching for future installments. I’m giving this four big crimefighting stars.
