In this sensational New Adult debut by Alex Rosa, boyfriends are too much trouble. So whatβs the harm in a little fun?
With an abusive relationship behind her, Skyler moves out of her Orange County apartment, changes her phone number, cuts ties with her friends, and moves in with her brother Josh, a talent agent with a spare room in his incredible house in Hollywood.
Josh is happy to take Skyler under his wing, but he has one rule: she canβt sleep with his roommate, Blake. Thatβs fine by Skyler. She doesnβt want a man in her life right nowβand certainly not cocky Blake whoβs with a different girl every night. But his all-American boy charm and his ripped model physique are difficult to refuse. Josh will never know if no one ever tells him. And a little secret now and then never hurt anyoneβ¦
Shannon’s Thoughts
The book blurb may have been what drew my attention to TRYST, but author Alex Rosa’s voice kept me throughly engaged in a witty, tangled and emotional roller coaster of a storyline.
Skyler finds herself moving into her brother’s condo after escaping an abusive relationship. Β He’s happy to have her and only lays down one rule: Β don’t fall for his best friend Blake. Β That immediately made me wonder what was wrong with Blake. Β But we soon discover Blake is that guy. Β The player. Β The different woman every night, player. Β But he’s different with Skyler, Β practically from the moment she meets him in the kitchen in his boxer briefs. Β He can be a bit of an a-hole, but you can see that he uses that as a defense. Β Which is very similar to what Skye does with her sarcasm.
Skye and Blake were perfect for each other, in a rather imperfect way. Β The both hid behind lies, which they told each other and themselves, as they feel harder for each other. Β The continued to play a game that hurt the two of them, rather than protect them. Β But despite those games, there was never a time when I didn’t believe these two wouldn’t have each others backs. Β It was there when Skye believed Blake would get the job he wanted or when Blake would do anything to protect Skye from her ex. Β They had to get over themselves and whatever preconceived notions they had in order to get their HEA…bruises and all.
A truly enjoyable read from a debut author. Β Alex Rosa gave these characters heart and had me crossing my fingers they’d get it right. Β This is definitely a book to pick up.
