We have PA DePaul and Julie Ann Walker with us today talking about naming a character. Help me in welcoming PA and Julie Ann to Cocktails and Books.
What’s in a Name?
Hi everyone! Julie Ann Walker here, delighted to be on Cocktails & Books with PA DePaul to celebrate the release of her newest title, Shadow of Doubt. For those folks who’ve read my books, Black Knights Inc., you may recognize the name DePaul. I have a character who shares the moniker. Coincidence? Not in the least!
You see PA has been a supporter of the BKI series for years – thanks, PA! And she was the winner of a promotion I ran to “have a character named after you.” I’ve had so much fun with the “Penni DePaul” character. She really kicks butt and takes names. Natch. So without further ado, I’ll turn this blog over to PA by asking her if she’d mind answering a couple of questions.
One, how do you feel about having a BKI character named after you, PA? Is it cool? Weird? Something in between?
*waving like an idiot* Hi Julie Ann! Hi Everyone!! How do I feel about a character named after me?? Freaking awesome! ESPECIALLY when the author is Julie Ann Walker? HELL YEAH! Everyone, Julie Ann is absolutely correct, I’ve been a fan of the BKI series since the second it hit the shelves. To be a character in the series…and a KICK-ASS Secret Service Agent rules! I will admit to giggling like a twelve-year old every time “Penni DePaul” does something even remotely sexual. And I’m cheering “me?” on when I decide it’s time to kick some butt.
Two, do you find yourself scolding or rooting for the character “Penni DePaul” as if she were really you?
I do. In my head I’m saying things like “damn straight” (kick butt scenes) or “woot woot” (when it’s naughty) but I’m able to separate enough to enjoy learning who BKI’s version of “Penni DePaul” is.
And three, since we’re talking about characters, which is your favorite character in your newest release, Shadow of Doubt? (I know. I know. It’s like asking a mother to choose her favorite child. But I’m evil that way! *laughs maniacally*)
OH! How cruel, Julie Ann!!! Hrmmmm. To say or not to say?? *taps chin* What? You all want me to spill? Okay. Okay. *silently asks for forgiveness from the rest of the time* Talon’s my favorite Delta Squad operative. *blows out a breath* Sorry Romeo, Magician, Wraith, Cappy, Grady, and Ted. There’s just something about Talon I’m drawn to. Let’s face it the man’s a complete jerk but I so want him to find a bit of happiness in his life.

When her secretly filmed tryst shows up on the internet, Michelle Alger goes on the run. She has no choice. Not only was her one-night stand the son of a US senator, but he’s been murdered—and she’s the number one suspect. With both the senator and an avenging drug lord on her trail, her life is in danger. There’s only man she can trust. He saved her once, but will he still be her hero six years later?
Captain Jeremy Malone and the rest of Delta Squad have the senator’s order: find the mystery woman who killed my son. But to Jeremy, she’s no mystery. Six years ago his team of Green Berets rescued her from the torturous clutches of a Colombian cartel, and he’s never forgotten her. His personal and covert mission: find Michelle before anyone else. When he and Michelle do meet again, the sparks are explosive and consuming. They’re also dangerous as hell.
Because with each new bit of evidence, Jeremy suspects that Michelle’s innocence may be a ruse—a beautiful trap set by a woman who has even more secrets yet to bare.
