From the highly acclaimed New York Times and USA Today bestselling Promise Me series comes a new story. A standalone novel.
A race for survival and love.
Once with him was never enough.
I am the girl you dislike. The girl you snub at parties. I am the one who flirts with men and knows no boundaries. I am the one you whisper about. The one who has no rules. I am the one who takes and uses without any regret or excuses.
On the outside I am perfect. I have money, looks, and a personality that makes people stand up and take notice, but on the inside I am broken and hurting.
Then I met Cash Marshall.
He wasnβt what I needed, but I wanted him anyway. It was Cashβs carved, muscular body I thought about. It was his cool, confident touch I craved. I swore he would only be a one-night stand, another distraction to take away the pain.
But then our world changed.
Our story is not about love. Love is pretty and sweet and full of niceties. Those no longer exist. Our story is about finding each other again in a world gone crazy. Itβs about surviving the impossible when war ravaged our land. Itβs about saving each other from the darkness and finding out just how strong we could be.
And maybe, just maybe, along the way, weβll find loveβ¦
Once and for all.

Shannon’s Thoughts
PROMISE ME ONCE was everything I loved in the connected books, Promise Me series. Β It had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.
PROMISE ME ONCE happens around the same time as the first two books in the series, except this story focuses on Cash’s life before he met up with Ryder, Maddie and Gavin. Β We discover Cash was a quiet man before the attack. Β Someone who was content with living a simple life on his family’s farm. Β But his quiet life started changing the minute he met Cat. Β She sparked an interest in Cash that he couldn’t fight, even though he really tried. Β Cash discovers he’s willing to do just about anything for this woman that drives him crazy.
Despite Cat making it easy to not like her, I found myself liking her. Β I understood why she pushed people away and acted the way she did when she first met Cash. Β She was using sex and alcohol to dumb her feelings, but you saw how much she feels in the way she takes care of her brothers or even her breakdown when the world changes. Β But Cat steps up when she needs to and becomes fiercely protective of her little family. Β It’s hard not to like her.
Cash and Cat spend a fair amount of the book apart, but I loved how they were never far from each others thoughts. Β Despite what both of them have had to endure after life as they know it changes, you know the explosive chemistry they had when they first met was going to be something that helped carry them through the rest of their lives. Β I can’t wait to see what happens with them and their little clan as they continue on their journey home in the next book.
If you haven’t read the first two books in the Promise Me series, that’s ok when it comes to PROMISE ME ONCE. Β Although happening in the same period of time and featuring a few characters, this is a stand alone (although I do recommend reading them) that I highly recommend. Β This was a page-turner I had a hard time putting down.
I licked my dry lips. βIn me.β
With one hard thrust, he impaled himself into me.
I cried out, throwing my head back. Oh, Jesus. He was big and wideβ¦ Oh, god. His cock was so long and thick that I felt torn in half. There was pain and there was pleasure. I knew what we were doing might have repercussions I may not be able to handle later, but I didnβt give a damn. He felt good inside me.
He withdrew then thrust back into me hard. So fucking hard. It made me moan and whimper, hating the exquisite torture but suddenly addicted to it.
My body clutched his as it pounded in and out of it. I cried out as he moved faster, biting my lip until I tasted blood.
His hand snapped out and grabbed the back of my neck, yanking my mouth to his and silencing my cries. He started plunging into me, going harder and deeper. Picking up speed and destroying my pussy.
I whimpered and gasped, holding onto him for dear life. He held me tightly, controlling my body and taking what he demanded. His hips jerked against me, driving his hardness into me roughly. He wasted no time and he wasnβt gentle. That cowboy was gone. The man that was fucking me was brutal, passionate, and fierce.
And, god, he was killing me.
As if he could read my mind, he suddenly slowed down. He tore his mouth from mine, sliding his cock into me. βOpen your eyes.β
I did, slowly lifting my eyelids. What I saw was the mirror behind him – the one on the opposite wall. I saw him between my legs, his jeans around his hips as he moved in and out of me.
βYou see us, sweetheart?β he asked, pulling out then sinking deep inside.
I nodded, unable to talk. Unable to think straight.
βGood. Keep your eyes open. I want you to remember whoβs in you. Someone like me.β
He slammed into me again, picking up speed. He took possession of my mouth once more. His kiss was hard and fast, matching his cock thrusting in and out me. He held me tight and drove into me faster and faster like he couldnβt get enough.
I gasped against his mouth and rocked against his body, feeling the ecstasy build in me. He pumped harder and harder, sensing I was almost there. My orgasm built. When it hit me, I screamed.
Cash swallowed the sound with his mouth, owning it and damn well taking it. His hands dropped down to my hips, holding them steady as he raced for the finish line too.
His fingers dug into my skin as he slammed into me. Once. Twice. βOh, fuck!β He growled against my mouth and thrust deep, going suddenly still.
We stayed that way forever – him between my legs and his dick buried deep inside me. We breathed hard. Every inch of me pulsated, each nerve ending awake.
Slowly, I became conscious of the coldness of the granite counter under my bottom and the muted sounds of the restaurant in the distance. I saw his backside nestled between my legs in the mirror. A strangerβs ass between my thighs. It was a harsh wakeup call. One I didnβt want to face.

“He was my darkness and I was his light.
We couldn’t exist without each other.”
For me, life was simple. I went to school and studied. I spent time with my friends and stayed out of trouble. I didn’t drink or swear and I only dated gentlemen. I was the typical good girl with a bright future. My world seemed perfect.
But that was about to change.
Ryder Delaney was the one imperfection in my life. He was the bad boy, the black sheep, the one your mother always warned you about. He had only one hard-and-fast rule – Don’t fall in love.
But some rules were meant to be broken.
We were best friends, inseparable since childhood despite our differences. I knew the real man hiding behind the tattoos and bad attitude. He knew all my secrets and dreams. But he didn’t know there was one thing I wanted and couldn’t have…him.
But sometimes Fate has a way of intervening. Soon our world collapsed. War erupted. Darkness prevailed. Alone and on the run, our only goal was to survive and to ignore the feelings we had for each other. But love is powerful…
and so is the darkness.
The epic conclusion of New York Times bestselling book Promise Me Darkness.
“I’m darkness, Maddie. Stay away from men like me. You’ll only get hurt.”
At one time my life was simple. Easy. But that was before the war. Now I was no longer an average college student. I was a survivor. A woman living in a ravaged world. My future was not bright and my life was far from perfect. The war had taken so much from meβ¦ but it wasnβt finished yet. It wanted more.
It wanted my heart. My soul. The one person I couldnβt live without.
It wanted Ryder Delaney. My best friend. The bad boy. The one person who could fight like no other and love me like no one else. He was the father of my baby. I watched him walk away one hot summer day and I prayed he would return. I needed him like I needed air to breathe and water to drink. Without him I was lost. A light without her darkness.
Until he returns, Iβll wait for him. And I believe he will return because love is powerfulβ¦
And so is the light calling him home.
