Review: Crazy For the Cowboy – Vicki Lewis Thompson

I am in a pattern lately of finding books that I like, but don’t love. Crazy for the Cowboy fits right into that for me. It’s a good book and it checks off a lot of the “must have” boxes.

Interesting Concept? Yes, and one I haven’t seen too much before. Our main characters are renewing and old acquaintance and coming together to save a town.

Good Characters? Yes, I especially liked Vince and how his character evolved. The secondary characters are entertaining.

Romance? Yes, we see Vince and Georgie fight their attraction for each other and a relationship grows. I really liked the fact that they each did things that “showed” the other it was more than just chemistry. By the time they acted on their attraction to each other there was a friendship built that would not have happened if they had acted sooner.

Conflict with resolution? Yes, done in a fairly unique way. Vince was convinced that he couldn’t give Georgie what she “needed.” I really liked how the emotional conflict was handled and how Vince was “shown the light.”

I’ve been struggling with why I didn’t love this book when it meets so many of my good book criteria and there are two big things.

One, Georgie. The Cinderella set up with her still living at home with her stepmother and step sister; she’s working to support everyone while the step mother could sell the ancestral home and family store out from under her. It just didn’t mesh with the way Georgie is described elsewhere.

Two, Crazy for the Cowboy just didn’t pull me in. It was an entertaining read, but there was no burning desire to sit down and finish it.

I do have to admit to being curious as to how the rest of the Sexy Texans series will play out. The cast of secondary characters are great; I would definitely be interested in seeing how their lives intersect and who pairs up next.
