The hotly anticipated ninth novel in the hugely popular Elemental Assassin series finds Gin Blanco on a dangerous mission to rescue a friend.Β When a terror from the past threatens Ginβs friend and body-disposer, Sophia, Gin will stop at nothing to protect her, even if it means walking straight into a killerβs trap. Meanwhile, the rocky romance between Gin and Owen reaches a turning pointβcan they reunite and rekindle their love? Or will the things Gin has been forced to do in her line of work as the deadly assassin the Spider keep them apart forever? Assuming, that is, she survives long enough to find outβ¦
Elizabeth’s Thoughts
Itβs been a while since I visited the series and from what I remember of it, the books were very exciting! Gin is one of the strongest kick-ass heroines in the urban fantasy realm. I admire her strength and I loved the storylines.
Having missed the previous books before HEART OF VENOM, it took me a while to get into the story. There was lots of action but I just really wasnβt into it. Whether it was because I havenβt read the last few books or because of the tone of the story, Iβm not sure but it was a chore trying to get through the book.
What I really didnβt like was this Owen guy. His relationship with Gin is very complicated and Iβd rather Gin give him the heave ho and go along her way.
I think Jennifer Estep is a very talented writer, but the series just isnβt for me. I would definitely recommend this book be read in series order.
