They’re the men mothers warn their daughters to stay away from.
In 1957 the tiny village of Middle Brook is caught between two warring MCs, the Mongrels and the Lupines. As a fledgling Guardian witch, not yet in full control of her immense powers, Joanne Lilley knows to stay away. When she witnesses the Mongrels leader being run off the road, the instant connection she feels to the wolf shifter changes everything. Is he the one destined to awaken her?
Henry Hastings is the Alpha of his pack and the village’s Protector. He’s a man with a vision—all shifters will unite against the evil that haunts Cumbria at night—something the Lupines vehemently oppose. Finding his mate is a young and innocent witch wasn't part of that vision, but the fates have decided.
Being with him places Joanne in danger, as her awakened powers are sought by his enemies.
When disaster strikes, Henry is faced with an impossible choice…
Kenna’s Thoughts
Doris O’connor does it again. In “The Witch’s Protector” she wrote a story with a handsome shifter Hero, a beautiful, strong willed heroine, and some fantastic background characters. I’m so impressed with this one. It brings out some real emotion, and I have to confess that it made me cry. That doesn’t happen to he very often.
No spoilers to be given here. I will just tell you that the Hero, Henry Hastings, is amazing. The leader of the Mongrels MC, he is the perfect Alpha. He is tough, but he’s also progressive. He wants to unite all the shifters in Middle Brook because there are some very nasty beings out there that want to harm them. When he meets Joanne Lilley, a young witch who is rather oblivious to what’s going on. However, she’s quite brave, and when Henry is hurt, she won’t stop until she can heal him.
The story really takes off from there. Their relationship forms quickly, but that is just fine to me. I’m a firm believer in love at first sight, and that is what happens in “The Witch’s Protector”. Their chemistry is palpable. They both want and need each other. Henry wants to protect Joanne because, even though he’s not totally happy about it, she’s his destined mate. I should mention that, the sexual tension is high, and when they come together, it’s so HOT! I mean…not even “hot” but “HAWT!!!!”.
Along with the heat comes action and fear. You know that in Middle Brook, nobody can just instantly live happily ever after, right? There is evil, and Henry, Joanne, the Mongrels, and other citizens have to stop that evil from taking over. I really liked this about the book. It really enhances the love story, if that makes any sense. It also ties the past to the present and it will help the reader to understand future installments of the series.
This is the second book in “The Protectors” series. It can be read as a stand alone, but I do recommend that you read book one, “Her Bear Protector” first. You’ll get an idea of what goes on in Middle Brook (Which is a town that I’d love to visit), the other characters, and the threat that is always lurking in the background. These stories are fantastic, and Doris has such a sharp mind for this genre. I’m giving it five solid stars, and if I could go higher, I would give it ten or more 🙂 You should definitely get this book.
