Avery Yeungβs biological clock just went off early. Thanks to her familyβs medical history, sheβs running out of time to get knocked up. And the only guy within donating distance? Her overprotectiveβand irritatingly hotβbest friend. So clearly she needs an anonymous donorβ¦
Anonymous donor? Over Sheriff Drew Flanneryβs dead body. While daddyhood will never be in the cards for a man with his past, Drew wonβt let Avery shop for a βpopsicle pop.β Heβll do whatβs right for his best friend by doing his best friend. But only if they do it properly.
But thereβs nothing βproperβ about it. Between the bed, the kitchen counter, and against his squad car, Avery and Drew are having the hottest sex ever. They canβt get enough of itβor each other. And without knowing it, theyβve crossed the one line that could ruin their friendship foreverβ¦
This is the first book I have read of Katee Robertβs and while I enjoyed it I did have a few concerns.Β I do recognize that this is the second book in the Out of Uniform series and that may be part of it.
The story is about Avery and Drew best friends since childhood.Β Avery finds out she has the genetic markings for ovarian cancer, which both her sister and mother had in the past.Β Since having children in the future wonβt be possible Avery decides to take matters in her own hands and have a baby and thatβs where Drew comes in.Β The problems start when Drew insists they have a baby the βold fashion wayβ rather then the βclinical wayβ.
While I did like Avery and Drewβs chemistry the lack of communication during the time they were trying to have a baby didn’t make sense to me.Β Drewβs issues with his past and Averyβs issues with her family seemed off to me.Β If they are best friends wouldnβt Avery know about Drewβs fears?
I enjoyed the secondary characters Ryan and Brit though I was would have liked to have learned more about their back story which was hinted at throughout the book.Β I think that is were book 1 comes in.
Overall I think itβs a good book I would recommend reading the first one in the Out of Uniform series before this one if you havenβt.Β If you have then you should enjoy this book, next in the series.
What was the problem? She bit back the question. It didnβt really matter. All that mattered was that he kept touching her. He ran his hands down her spine, stopping just before reaching the cuffs. Then he pulled her into a standing position, using his hips to keep her pinned against the side of the Jeep, and repeated the process with the front of her body.
Or he started to. It stopped being a cursory exploration as soon as he reached her breasts. He cupped her, squeezing. βWhy the hell arenβt you wearing a bra?β
He lightly pinched her nipples and she shivered. βI wasnβt aware I was talking to the fashion police.β
βDo you know what it does to me knowing youβre driving around, a short step away from being topless?β His breath brushed the back of her neck and over one shoulder, raising goose bumps in its wake.
Probably the same thing it did to Avery. She didnβt make a habit of going braless, but she might start if this was the reaction she got. She took a shaky breath. βThen I guess you better not do a panty check.β
Drew froze for one eternal second. Then he pushed her back down over the hood of her Jeep and dragged her skirt up to bunch around her hips. A breeze chose that moment to hitβas if she needed the reminder of just how exposed she was. But then he slid a hand between her legs, and she didnβt care much about anything else at all.
βYouβre already wet.β He teased her, fingers brushing her clit, her entrance, and back again, nothing close to what she needed. βI think you like it when I toss you around.β
She gritted her teeth, fighting against the need to spread her legs to give him better access, and beg for him to just touch her. βNah. I was touching myself while I was driving.β
βReally?β He kept up his maddening route. βAnd what were you thinking about?β
Hell, if she actually had started early, sheβd have been thinking about him. Yesterday had given her plenty of ammunition for fantasies. No way in hell would she admit as much, though. βSean Connery. Obviously.β
βObviously.β His laugh was a little harsh. βGuess Iβll have to up my game if I want you in the here and now, huh?β
Up his game? Only if he wanted to kill her. Avery couldnβt admit she was so affected. She wouldnβt. It was just sexβand sex with a deadline, at that. She let her cheek rest against the cool metal of the hood, striving for control. βI donβt know. Sean Connery is a pretty tough act to follow.β
βSean Connery, huh?β
βYep.β She was lying through her teeth and she had a pretty good idea that he knew it. His fingers pushed deeper, spreading her until she couldnβt help but rock against him. She gritted her teeth. βHe was really good.β
βI bet.β His lips found the back of her neck. βItβs a shame you have to settle for me.β
The ass didnβt sound the least bit bothered by it, either.
She hissed out a breath at the feeling of his palm cupping her. Owning her. It wasnβt supposed to be this intense. She closed her eyes, but that only made it worse, because she couldnβt pretend she was with anyone else but Drew.
She didnβt want to.
Katee Robert learned to tell stories at her grandpaβs knee. Her favorites then were the rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered romance novels and never looked back.
Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the wayβas it often doesβand she spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that sheβd like to write a book and try to get published.
Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding speculative romance. Because, really, who wouldnβt want to write entire books about the smoking-hot relationships between two people?
She now spends her timeβwhen not lost in Far Reach worldsβplaying imaginary games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.
