three-stars

Known for his record-breaking stats and womanizing ways, wide receiver, Buddy Carruthers, would give it all up for one chance to win the only woman he ever wanted, Emmy Meacham. Hard-won games, and traveling half the season kept Buddy from pursuing his secret passion. Even if he managed to corner her for a moment, would she still care?
Now a rock star known as Emerald, Emmy lived her life on the road with no time for love. In her dreams, she longed to turn back the clock and spend another night with Buddy. But lies and deceit had kept them apart for five years. Would a chance meeting wash away those years or cause old wounds to resurface? Could two lives traveling in opposite directions make room for love or would they continue to spin, out of sync, and always alone?
Caution: Locker room language

This is an engaging story about a sexy football player who gets a second chance at love.  Buddy and Emme reunite when Emme sings the national anthem at one of Buddy’s football games.  In college Buddy and Emme were madly in love, but their relationship ends when they move on to pursue their careers.  Now, five years later, they meet again.  Buddy is playing professional football and has been with lots of different women, but he has never forgotten Emme.  Emme is now a famous rock star and although she is excited to see Buddy again, she doesn’t trust him.  Even though Buddy and Emme are happy to see each other again, the road to happiness isn’t easy for them.  There are people in their lives who don’t want them together and they both have high profile careers that keep them busy.

This is the second book in the First and Ten series and each book is a stand alone.  The story has romance and some suspense when Emme discovers someone is stalking her. Buddy cares about Emme and when he discovers someone wants to hurt her, he does whatever it takes to protect her.  It’s easy to like Buddy.  He is an alpha male, football player and yet, he isn’t afraid to show how he feels about Emme.  Buddy is exactly what Emme needs in her crazy life.  I have to admit at times I found Emme’s behavior frustrating. Even though she is successful, she lacks self confidence and it’s hard to understand some of the decisions she makes. Emme’s manager, Stash doesn’t have any redeeming qualities and I don’t know why she stays with him when he continually bullies her. There is a lot of chemistry between Buddy and Emme as they try to work through all their issues.
