When fifteen-year-old Devin Hughes created his phantom lover to help him keep his sexual identity a secret, he never imagined that Brice would materialize in the flesh ten years later. Convinced that the mind-blowing encounters he had with his hunky specter were nothing more than fevered hallucinations, Dev attempts to push Brice to the back of his mind and concentrate on his rising career as an advertising executive.
With the help of his newest client, Englishman Matthew Lyons, CEO of Lyons Security, Devin is able to forget Brice once and for all. Sparks fly between Dev and Matt, and they speed full-throttle into a relationship. During a month-long separation, Devin struggles with uncertainty and reverts to his “hurt them before they hurt you” attitude, forcing him to get a grip and make things right or lose Matt altogether.
When an obsessed Brice finds out about Devin’s new relationship, his rage reaches an all-time high. The two men have ruined all his plans, and he will stop at nothing to reach his goal: harvesting Devin’s soul.
Will Devin, with Matthew’s help, find a way to banish Brice forever, or will they both succumb to the satanic powers of a maniacal demon?
I really enjoyed “Mirror of Obsession” from Harper Jewel. The blurb really grabbed me. I love all things unique, and I’m always looking for a book that is just a little different from everything that’s out there. First of all, it’s MM, and that’s my current…well…obsession. Next, there’s an element of the paranormal. Are demons paranormal? There’s also a sweet love story, a bit of angst, and some VERY hot sex. This book is full of everything I love.
Here’s a quick rundown. Devin has just had another nasty breakup. Catching his boyfriend with another man in HIS bed infuriates him. Enter Brice…right through the mirror. Devin “invented” an imaginary lover when he was young, and he seems to appear after those aforementioned nasty breakups. Some amazing sex occurs, and is nearly positive that it’s nothing but a dream caused by the fever he has while he’s sick with a cold. Soon after, Devin meets Matthew. Matthew is the CEO of a company who is looking to hire the advertising company Devin works for. There is just INSTANT chemistry. Delicious chemistry. It was so hot that even **I** got the shivers. The men fall in love, and after a bit of separation anxiety during Matthew’s trip to the UK, it’s obvious that their relationship is is going to be permanent. HOwever, we can’t forget about Brice, the “imaginary friend”. Turns out he’s not so imaginary after all. He’s a demon sent by Satan himself to steal Devin’s soul. After Satan tells him to back off, Brice isn’t willing to cry uncle just yet.
Anyway, I have given enough away. Let me just say that what follows is exciting and suspensful, and it’s really cool :-). As I said, this story is just what I was looking for. It was a great way to spend an evening. It was sexy, humourous, a little scary, and well written. I’m looking forward to reading future works from Harper Jewel.
