The Collar is the fifth book in the Submissive series by Tara Sue Me.Β This book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel with ease.
Dena Jenkins is a successful lawyer, who seems tired and unhappy as to how her life is going.Β Her life is just coasting along and she seems unable to want to move forward when her life was perfect not too long ago.Β That is until something tragic happened to drive her away from the one man she loves.
Jeff is a Dom and is head over heels in love with Dena.Β The problem is their past drove them away from each other and he is not sure they can fix it.Β So he is trying to move on with his life, even to the point that moving across the country seems like a good idea.Β I liked how Jeff is not all he seems and has so many layers to him that is hard to see right at first.Β I loved that when Dena is threatened nothing is going to stop him from protecting her.
The connection between Jeff and Dena is intense.Β You can feel the heat between them.Β Their biggest issue that drove them apart was their lack of communications but considering the circumstances it was not unexpected. I liked that despite their background they still loved each other.Β The sex scenes were scorching.
I found this book well written with an interesting plot. I enjoyed how the author handled the flashbacks.Β While I am not a fan of them, I did not get lost like normally do. Β The main characters and the secondary characters were spellbinding. The only part I was not fond of was who was threatening Dena and how that part of the story unraveled.Β It came across as anticlimactic. Β While a HEA ending was expected, I loved that I was kept guessing right to the end on how it would turn out. Overall, this was a very captivating book.Β I canβt wait to read the next story in the series, and find out what is happening next with Abby and Nathaniel.
