That one simple kiss slayed him as nothing in his very, very long life had ever done. It physically hurt him to release her and turn his back on everything she offered, but it was for the best. A KING WHO WALKS IN DARKNESS The Rhys who has existed for centuries is gone. Stripped of his ability to shapeshift, Rhys can no longer embody the majestic, powerful dragon he was at birth. Cut off from his heritage by one of his own, this Dragon King must remain a man, haunted by demons who torment his every waking moment. The darkness would swallow him whole...except a woman so beautiful and haunted becomes the one beam of light in his world... A DESIRE THAT WILL NOT BE DENIEDLily Ross is taking the first step in building a new life for herself. Still reeling from a relationship that nearly broke her spirit, Lily is wary of her attraction to brawny, brooding Rhys. The passion burning so brightly between them is a potent temptation, but any entanglement is destined to end in disaster. Yet when a spectre from Lily's past threatens their growing bond, Rhys is forced to choose with his heart, or lose this woman who has become his one chance at salvation...in Donna Grant's newest Dark Kings novel, Night's Blaze.
As a huge fan of Donna Grant and especially her Dragon Kings series, I have been anxiously awaiting Rhys and Lily’s story. Ever read a story where the secondary characters captivate you so much that by the time you’re done, you’re practically begging for their story to be next? That was Rhys and Lily for me, which is why I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Night’s Blaze. And as always, Grant has not only met my expectations, she’s once again surpassed them.
For those not overly familiar with the Kings, Rhys is the playboy who is never seen with the same woman more than once. He dates beautiful, statuesque women and comes across as a devil may care player. In reality Rhys is afraid. He’s afraid to get attached knowing that life as the mate of a Dragon King is not an easy one. And the injury he suffered in the previous book are not exactly making it hard for him to find excuses to stay away form the one woman who seems to captivate him like no other woman. Lily is a woman with a secret. Silent and unassuming, Lily is the exact opposite of every woman Rhys normally associates with in every way. However his playboy ways are not enough to keep her from yearning that one day he’ll look at her as something other than an employee in the shop.
Regardless of the obvious differences between them, these two unlikely characters seem to be exactly wheat the other needs. Still suffering from an earlier attack, the last thing Rhys needs or has time for is a mate. The kings battle with the Dark and their mysterious enemy continues and only seems to escalate by the day. A mate only provides the dark with another perceived weakness and a distraction. So of course this is the perfect time for Rhys to realize that he can’t live without Lily.
New developments abound and enemies revealed when Lily is placed in danger. If you’ve been following the story line thus far, this is one book you do not want to miss. So many questions are finally answered and a new Dragon King awakens! So if you thought this series was nearing it’s end with almost all of the Kings finally mated, you couldn’t be more wrong. A must read for all fans of the Dragon Kings!
